Great "How To" beginners book!, September 17, 2000
This review is from: How to Draw Manga : Characters (Japanese Text Version) (Paperback)
How to Draw Manga: Compiling Characters is a good book for those who are interested in drawing manga style and are looking for a place to start. Intermediate and advanced artists should look elsewhere for tips and tricks. The book focuses breifly on faces, expressions, hair, foreshorting, anatomy, clothing, shadows, and character types. The begining of the book cover equipment and the average work schdule of a japaneses manga artist (which is quite different from their american counterparts). In several sections, cartoons are used to illustate how a particular effect is achieved. While amusing, I would have rather they condensed the information into words only and uses the extra space for more descriptive drawings. Still a good book.
