5.0 out of 5 stars The book every beginner should read first
I'm a beginner. I jumped into pastels and immediately realized that you have to draw before you can paint. I bought a dozen books on painting and drawing, and this is by far the best choice I made.
The text is straightforward. The exercises are simple. And the book builds your skills from the ground up. You start by learning to draw a straight line freehand and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Starts out well enough but loses momentum
The beginning of this book and the idea behind it are simple and straightforward: behind every object you see there is some "skeletal" figure made of simple geometric shapes - the cube, the cone, the cylinder and the sphere. If you know how to draw these and string them together you can in theory make any drawing you want. Sounds simple, right? Well, it is...

Enjoyed going through this book and trying the techniques and exercises recommended. Practice makes perfect once you have the techniques down.

I wanted a different style of drawing a different technique. Different artists and teachers have different techniques. This book did offer a few different techniques, so I was happy with the purchase. It also was in very good shape and shipping was quick

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Beginner's Book, November 25, 2012
This is a great book to get you started drawing. I have taken college-level art courses and really benefited from this book -- especially benefited from sections related to children and figures.

This is a great book and very easy to follow. I couldn't draw a box or a ball before reading this book and now I can't stop sketching.

This book is wonderful. I've been drawing ever since I was little, and it is def. helping me sharpen my drawings skills. Even if you don't know how to draw and want to learn-this is a great way to start. The author explains things very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great drawing book!, April 23, 2014

Some of the subjects are old (like an out-dated T.V.), but I found the instructions to be great.
I am now going through this book and drawing some of the assignments, just to improve my
own drawing skills. I can draw pretty well by myself, but this will actually take me to the next level
I'm hoping. This book did meet my expectations!
