Earns every laugh,

What do you wear to break up with somone? Where should you do it? How will particular types of guys respond to the break-up? A rolling-about-the-floor funny tome of break-up advice I came across for some story research. Covering everything from when you should break up with someone to the after shocks (your mother's coronary and rantings that you'll become an old maid, among other potential gems), it's fun reading for anyone with high-enough self-esteem, regardless of sex, even though it's definitely a woman's book. It's a great conversation book full of cheap laughs, even though it's real as hell.

I had never broken up with anyone before and I wanted dump my 5+ year boyfriend I cared deeply about. This book not only assured me that I was doing the right thing, but it also helped me with the when and how. I give it to everyone I know who is unhappy in their relationship. It's good constructive advice and makes for a great reference book!

laugh out loud,

This is the funniest book I've read in a long time, not ha ha slapstick, but Seinfeld-esque humor. Perfect gift for a friend who's always moaning about her relationship, and it will make your own life easier, too, if she follows the advice -- or at least learns to laugh at herself.

It's nice to see Fillion lighten up a bit after her first (also excellent book). I hope she writes lots more with Ladowsky. This is a great read and should be read in public.

Some good points among the fluff,

If you want to end a relationship, do it in person, plan what you will say, and do it. Good, sound advice for women and men alike. Now you don't have to read the book. But you should read it anyway since most people have probably never ended a relationship cleanly and the book is fairly amusing. Especially enjoyed the typing of men (Cling-on, Tin Man, etc.).

Tin Man turned lap dog and I dumped him anyhow.,

Tony Robbins could not have raised my self-esteem more effectively than "Dump". I read it and Tin Man wept. I needed some help in the "dressing for dumping" department and went from Liz Claiborne to Spice Girls on the day of the dump. Telling Tin Man he was too possessive while wearing spiked heels and a belly top seems to have done the trick. Problem was, once he lapped, I snapped. Exit-ed with "I will only cause you pain". A must read!

If you are looking for a serious 'how to' book you might want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for a lighthearted and amusing read to help lighten your mood, then this might be just the book for you.

Have you dated a jerk but weren't bold enough to dump him because he was manipulative and knew how to turn things around in his favour? Well, this book is for you. I followed the steps outlined and got rid of the baggage in my life! This book was the best "practical" book I ever read. I highly recommend it to anyone desiring to keep her sanity and get herself back.
For those people who thinks it's a simple book and don't take it seriously, they are the people who you tell how to make a million dollars but won't do what's necessary to obtain it. Don't listen to them. Get the book, dump the guy, obtain the fabulous life you know you want. You can do it! I did.

Relationships as Comedy,

This review is from: How to Dump a Guy: (A Coward's Manual) (Paperback)
Required reading for any woman in doubt about her relationships and for any man interested in women.A witty parody of The Rules and other "how to" books, Fillion and Ladowsky have provided women with a highly intelligent, entertaining and useful instruction in the strategy of dating and dumping guys. Women should find this book comical and empowering. It is shockingly candid and successful in clarifying and articulating aspects of dating which are rarely discussed. For men, this book is "a walk through the women's locker room". It will confirm your worst fears about the opposite sex and how your girlfriend describes you to other women.

How to Dump a Guy is a fast read which will cause uncontrollable laughter. Don't make the same mistake I did. To avoid embarrassment, do not read this book in a public place such as in an airplane. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Mine is that Valium should be prescribed to anyone who is as negative about this book and takes it is as seriously as does the author of the below review. |
