Sokolenko's fury at idiocy or injustice simmers throughout. Occasionally, it flares up in vivid choleric metaphor. But mostly, the simple facts suffice: "'Throw the pencils away!' yelled our commander" and they do, but Sokolenko's pen triumphs.
