Great start for Photoshop and digital photography beginners,
By Arthur Mills "Arthur M. Mills, Jr." (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Do Everything Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Paperback)
After paying an arm and a leg for the Adobe Photoshop CS4 program, I needed a cheap book to teach me how to use the program. I needed a book that would teach me the basics, not a college-level book. I bought Adobe Photoshop CS4 How to Do Everything and read it carefully as I followed the lessons in the book. A lot of basic information about digital photography is also included in the book. I agree with a previous post that this book is for beginners and not for someone that already has a basic knowledge of the program. In fact, the book probably is so basic that one could just play around with the program without the book and learn the same things. However, the author gives great tips and very important shortcuts that are not easily found in the program or anywhere else. And he does so in a very fun and sometimes humorous way. These tips and shortcuts turned out to be a great time saver.
Over all, I do recommend this book for the Photoshop beginner. If anything else, read it for the information pertaining to tips and shortcuts and for the author's sense of humor. Arthur M Mills Jr Author: The Empty Lot Next Door

I'm a professional photographer who uses Photoshop daily in my business. The things I know how to do, I know very well, but I'm always looking to expand my uses for the program. For instance, I would like to know more about design functions, how I could use CS4 in marketing my business, new ways to use type, etc. These are the things I don't use all the time.
Instead, this is basically a beginners book. Another rehash of tools, functions and fundamentals, but definintly NOT how to do everything or even how to do ANYTHING new. If you are a beginner, fine. I would even go so far as to say this is a pretty good beginner book. But if you were really looking for something different, look elsewhere. For me, this book was a big disappointment and the title is all marketing hype. |
