Paul Rega is president of a retained executive search firm he founded in 1985. His provocative new book strikes a nerve with millions of displaced workers and goes well beyond the principles of job hunting. He explains how to market your background to a targeted audience, interviewing skills and techniques, network building strategies, how to utilize personal and business contacts, effective use of social media, including LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, insider tips on working with recruiters, salary and benefits negotiation, how to write a resume, cover and follow-up letters, how to start and succeed in your own business and much more.

Despite the many challenges faced by those suffering as a result of the weak job market, Paul believes that change in one's life can be positive. He explains that, "Change throughout your life is inevitable, and as your life changes so often does your career." His book is an effective guide that will provide you with the necessary tools, skills and inside knowledge from a professional recruiter to help you navigate through difficult economic times and find a new job or change careers.

A Must Read for EVERYONE

This amazingly, informative manual takes you through a methodical, concise step-by-step procedure to first realize and assess your OWN values and self-worth, before presenting yourself to the professional "working world." The author uses his own personal experiences in an anecdotal manner to convey situations that may occur, whether you're pursuing a career in your chosen field of study, looking to be promoted in your current job, or just looking for something BRAND NEW. The book offers helpful hints in resume' writing, interview do's & don'ts, and is "chock-full" of helpful websites to connect and guide you through your job-finding quest. Toward the end of the book, he also shares sage advice on starting and owning your OWN business. I highly recommend this book to ANYONE, whether you're job searching or not; it full of common sense advice that can simply enrich your life.

Search for more than just a job...search for your life passion

I must thank my friend for sending me in the direction of this book. I just read it and am so impressed with the way the information is presented. It's written by someone who has gone through unemployment and shares how not to just get through it, but thrive. It includes all areas of a job search, as well as how to find the right balance between spiritual, family, health, knowledge, relationships, financial and career. It's personal, practical, poignant and very informative on how to get started in finding your dream career path, and not just another job.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book Everyone Should Read March 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Economic times are hard. In some cases, awful. Having been laid off five times in my life and have suffered through a few periods of bleakness in my life, I recently lost a job I dearly loved after 15 years. I spent many months wondering how I would recover, especially at my age now. I was no longer a kid out of college. I'm a middle-aged man buried in college bills and a big mortgage, afraid of how I would ever find another job in the field I love.

I saw this book featured on the social networks. While I try to create another career for myself, I felt reading this book was an important step to motivating myself to believe again.

I'm glad I found this book. It's an important book, too. Everyone suffers through tough times and questions about our job stability and future. The author, Paul Rega, does a great job in outlining with details how one should get back on their feet and believe in themselves again.

Mr. Rega focuses also on the external factors that affect our outlook and there are many to consider. I like he is always pushing the worker, no matter what field or experience one has, to keep looking for ways to improve our skill set.

As I said, an important book for all of us, for all ages.

I highly recommend those seeking a job and those with one to read this information packed book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Place to Start Your Job Search April 7, 2013
By clahain

This book fell into our laps at a time when my husband had been blindsided by a chronic illness that ended his long-term career in commercial driving. It was scary enough contemplating such a change at 45 years old, then, before the ink had dried on his updated resume, he was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment has been long and hard, but it's nearing its end. While my husband can look forward to a full recovery, he now has to face his interrupted job search at a point when his stamina is iffy and his self-confidence bruised. Paul Rega's book offers a clear, user-friendly approach to looking for work in tough economic times and difficult personal circumstances. So much of who we are is wrapped up in what we do for a living. Perhaps the most difficult part of unemployment is how it can strip away our identity. This book doesn't just address the mechanics of a job search. Common sense tells a job hunter to target specific companies, clean up his resume, show up to the interview on time, etc. What is more difficult is generating the gumption to put yourself out there, to take a risk when all you want to do is hide in a corner. Through his professional advice and personal stories, Paul Rega looks at the reader as a whole person with needs, desires and fears that can't help but impact his or her job search. This book offers a way to orient oneself, a way to begin. And beginning is two-thirds of the battle.

Note on the reviewer: I obtained Paul Rega's book free as a promotional download on a social networking site. The offer showed up a week or so after my husband had to leave his job, but the cancer diagnosis that followed caused many months to pass before we actually read the book. While I am a writer and an editor, I do not "trade" reviews, and I do not review books that I have not read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Unique and Inspirational Career Guide May 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a unique career and job search guide written by someone who has been there, done it and is eminently qualified to share it. Having started two businesses whilst still a student (the proceeds of which paid for his last year at college!) Paul Rega went on to own his own executive search business by the age of 28 and now has nearly three decades of experience behind him in the recruitment industry. His professional knowledge of what it is that employers are looking for is backed up in this book by his personal experience as both an employer and an employee. Anyone can find out how to write a resume by searching on the internet. What this book gives you is hands-on advice on each step of your job search - how to discover the best career path for you based on your personal qualities and aspirations; how to approach employers; how to conduct negotiations and how to prepare for an interview. Reading this book is like having one-to-one career counselling (but a lot less expensive!). There are morale boosting tips and references to the author's own career path and the challenges, pitfalls and personal tragedies that he had to overcome along the way. I felt utterly inspired and ready to start my own business by the time I reached the end of the book. Highly recommended.
