Author Lapin leads us through this technological treatise in anecdotal, conversational style, along with examples from his own wealth of experience. It's an easy read, often humorous, with Lapin's particular brand of irony. This isn't a book paranoids should read, nor is it intended as a how-to for illegal activities, but if you want to know how it's done, it's here. And it's expensive. I purchased this book back in 1987 when it was first published. It is a great source for information regarding electronic phone surveilance, gadgetry, tracing people through public and private records, etc. Although some of the information is still usable, I believe it may be outdated. There are numerous sources for spy equipment in the back of the book, but how many of those are still in business? Who knows.

This is more of an overview of different technologies. If you would like to see what's out there, this may be the book for you. It's not, at all, a "how to" at all. Misleading title. Selling my copy.
