Gr. 6^-12. In this concisely written handbook, a former college-scholarship athlete provides basic information on the availability of college athletic scholarships at the Division I and II levels and explains how a student athlete can receive and keep an athletic grant-in-aid. Minnis defines eligibility by current intercollegiate standards and clearly details the recruitment process, the key elements recruiters seek, and the roles played by student athletes, parents, and coaches. Useful tips on training and academics are given, as is information on training routines, which can be used by students from middle school to college age. Although this is certainly not definitive, it will, nonetheless, answer lots of questions and may be of value to guidance counselors and coaches as well as students. A list of recommended readings and a bibliography are appended. Mary Romano Marks
