Another cat book? Yes--this time a seriocomic one. Stating in his introduction that he has "chosen to share . . . highly personal (and shamelessly subjective) observations and conclusions accumulated after almost 30 years of close interaction with cats," Denny proceeds to discuss in a humorous manner cat evolution (from proto-cat Miacis), anatomy (including vibrissae and the flea), and behavior (acceptable and otherwise). He also explains the cat-and-bird vendetta and considers such perennial topics as the naming of cats, the indoor-versus-outdoor controversy, the hunting instinct, and feline eating habits--interspersing anecdotes about several boyhood dogs, his daughter's iguana, and the six cats that presently share his life. In conclusion, he keeps his promise by telling "how to get a cat to sit on your lap--without force or drugs."
