5.0 out of 5 stars Premeditated Chaos, January 18, 2010

On "How to Get High Without Drugs" Ryan Singer gives us just a glimpse of his many talents with this comedic gem of an album. The comedian fires on all cylinders with a barrage of true-to-life anecdotes, unique observations and scattered doses of social commentary to strike the perfect balance of off the wall hilarity and sharp, quick-witted intellect.

Perhaps the most notably unique quality about Ryan is his uncanny ability to remain articulate and in command of the stage and his pacing while delivering longhand material with a variety of vocal inflections, like the title track, where his premeditated chaos truly comes to life in a way only he can deliver. With a multitude of voices, characters and honest autobiographical glimpses into his background and psyche, this is more than just an album - it's a journey. And on this journey, the man behind the comedic brilliance provides us with the perfect introduction to who he is and the unbelievable range that he has to offer.

With a wonderful rhythm to his set, Ryan will at times skilfully use his abilities to take listeners all the way to the edge, and then, just as everyone is about to forget where he was going with the joke, pull us right back and come full circle by the end of it. Daring, clever, chaotic, unique, psychedelic, tumultuous, FUN and beautifully bizarre in all the right places, "How to Get High..." is a must listen for anyone who enjoys the feeling of uncontrollable laughter or simply wants to hear what the future of progressive stand up comedy sounds like.

Brilliant. No other word can describe this CD. I was at the recording of the CD and have seen Ryan many times live. This CD is a great example for all aspiring comedians in perfect stage craft, how to tell a joke, and how to hold an audiences attention with great call backs that make you tip over in your seat laughing! Highly recommend this CD to any fan of standup comedy.

Ryan Singer is a breath of fresh air - I used to go to comedy shows before I had kids. I also used to get high (with drugs) but that's another story! Anyhoot, really funny and I think would appeal to a lot of people ... just as much a storyteller as he is a comic
