According to Dr. Christine Wood the risk of developing degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and obesity can be significantly reduced through proper nutrition beginning in childhood and continuing through adulthood. Wood outlines in her book ways of minimizing (and in some cases eliminating) symptoms for other non-degenerative diseases such as allergies, asthma, and attention deficit disorder (ADD) through environmental control, nutritional supplementation, and a balanced childhood diet. DR. CHRISTINE WOOD is a practicing pediatrician in San Diego County. She holds a medical degree from the University of Michigan, a lactation educator certificate from the University of California, San Diego, and completed her pediatric residency at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Currently, she lectures on the role of nutrition supplementation in the lives of children to parents and physicians worldwide.

About the Author
Dr. Christine Wood is a practicing pediatrician in San Diego with interests in healthy nutrition for children and the environmental and nutritional impact on health and disease.
Dr. Wood lectures to physicians and other health professionals on the topic of nutritional medicine for children and speaks on healthy lifestyle practices to parents worldwide. Her articles have been published in Newsweek and Great Life Magazine. Her interviews have been featured in magazines including: Parenting, Parents, Redbook, Fit Pregnancy, Family Life, among others. She has been a television and radio guest discussing childhood nutrition. She serves on the San Diego Coalition on Children and Weight.
She graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and went on to ChildrenÂ’s Hospital of Los Angeles for her pediatric residency.

The book is a terrific guide and reference source for nutrition and creating healthy eating habits. It spans a child's needs from birth to adolescence. The sections on Environmental Bad Guys and the Antioxidant Good Guys are very informative yet not overbearing with scientific terms. It is so important to create healthy lifestyle for children and this book does it by teaching you the parent the fundamentals.

I was given this book after my wife and I had our first son. We read this book from front to back and still use it as a reference. By using what we read, our son doesn't enjoy a lot of processed foods, but loves to eat fruits and even vegetables! This is quite a change from my sister-in-law's kids who love chicken nuggest and MacDonalds. Also, because we have changed the diet for our son, my wife and I have found ourselves eating better. If you have friends or family with children, or who are expecting, I highly recommend this book for them.

The only reason I couldn't rate this as a 5 is because I couldn't stand to READ it from front to back. But it is great to use as a resource. I got this book while pregnant with my 3rd child and flip thorugh it every month or 2 as a resource. I have a bad eater and a good eater so I am determined to get things right and it really is a great resource of what to feed your children at what ages. I will continue to use this and it is a great gift idea for any new mom!
