Good advice indeed!,

Where does a shy guy go to answer questions about how to meet other guys? I don't know about you but for this reader "How to get Laid" was just the answer. Thank you Mr. Bass for your useful hints and guidelines for those of us who aren't a Greek god amongst our homo brothers. Come to think of it, even you super hotties can probably learn a thing or two from this book. It's funny and frank and always informative. "How to get Laid" has helped me understand many things about confidence, personal grooming and even etiquette rules when cruising some where other than just your local gay bar. Love the illustrations too!

Sexy Fun,

While not everyone can use every tip, there are some great, universal hints in here about attracting guys to you. This is perfect for newbies, or guys (and we all know guys like this) who could get a lot of play if they were just a bit more conscious about their body language and more aware of how they appear to others. Plus there's a big section on threeways, non-monogamy, and how to get yourself out of bad hook-up situations. I'd have saved myself a lot of time if I'd been given this when I was 20. There are some really fun illustrations here too.

Very Helpful,
This review is from: How to Get Laid: The Gay Man's Essential Guide to Hot Sex (Paperback)
I guess I could be described as a "newby" a relatively attractive guy who could use some helpful hints when it comes to hooking up. I got some useful tips regarding confidence, posture and pickup lines. I recommend this book for all gay men looking to score a little more than they are right now. In the advertisement , it said the book would give tips on how to make the other guys he's checking look bad. Unless I'm blind, there was nothing in the book about that. So for that reason I only gave it 4 stars

Entertaining and Informative,

They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. If you took a look at this cover and expect a heart-warming account of relationships and how to find your one true love ... this book is not for you. This book is entertaining and funny but does, in some humorous manner, get down to the basics of gay sex and hooking up. It covers flirting, how to pick up on other guy's flirting, where to meet guys, how to negotiate sex and many other topics. People who complain about this book being insulting and sophomoric and not helpful ... well, this book opens with an explanation of what you're going to get from this and says if you're looking for more helpful tips on gay men and serious, long-term relationships, look elsewhere. This is pretty light reading with a good chapter on safe sex practices and STDs, something that many people are not educated on.
In short, this is a short book that is actually packed with information. It's not all fluff; yes, there are some sophomoric parts to it that pretty much dish on sex as it is and talks about men as most of us behave but then there are very professional, educated chapters such as the information provided on safe sex and STDs. Check it out.

Not helpful,

I found most of the advice in this book to be overly obvious and not very useful. Like where to go to meet guys--bars, saunas, gyms, gourmet food stores--duh! Tell me something I haven't already thought of, and tell me some lines that are really funny and not over the top stuff like, "Where can I find the freshest meat?" Who in the world really says that? I felt like the author treated the whole business of cruising and meeting guys to be a big joke, not the fine art that it is, and something that we really need to work on. Also, some of the stuff in there was just wrong--like "foreplay is for girls!" What??? I don't know what planet this guy is from, but foreplay, anticipation, and attraction are the hottest parts of chemistry that two males can share. If you want real advice on this, I think you're better off looking in the straight aisle, i.e. Double Your Dating by David deAngelo (a downloadable e-book). I've picked up some great tips there and have used them on boys.

How to have vanilla sex...,

You will learn more from your first gay erotic video than you will from this entire book. The author describes only the most basic practices, and rather badly at that. For example, how to kiss well is ignored entirely, the chapter on oral sex describes the basic mechanics but doesn't describe how to do it well, and something as relatively vanilla and commonplace as anilingus is viewed by the author with horror - he finds himself obligated to tell us that he and his friends don't do it. In short, this is not a person who should be giving sex advice.

Hysterically funny and spot on true to form. I learned so much I didn't know about cracking the gay code of dating.

Several readers (and acquaintances) asked my reaction to the 2005 book by Jonathan Bass titled How to Get Laid: The Gay Man's Essential Guide to Hot Sex (Los Angeles: Alyson Books).
In a word? I haven't read such a funny tract in ages. Even Beloved giggled and laughed out loud. And better yet, the advice is generally sound for the undiscriminating reader. It's brief, breezy, and bitchy -- but above all, it accurately reflects the practical moralizing and strategizing for neophytes desiring options. Highly recommended. We even read paraphrases at a recent cocktail party, and everyone seemed in the throes of laughter, nodding with ascent, and asking for the title to get their own copy. The comic elements are vital to its success, but don't let the comic detract from its authority. If we cannot laugh at ourselves, we don't deserve our community To whet your appetite, "the trick to tracking down a hot trick [dalliance] is to know what types of guys tend to found in what types of locations." For example, Bars, Clubs, Baths, Resorts, Parks, Local rags, Orgiastic parties, gourmet food marts, film festivals, museums, galas and benefits, theaters, and hardware stores. I would only add your upscale men's store (like Macy's, Bloomingdales, Neiman-Marcus) and the male-dominated Pottery Barn, Ikea, unless the object of interest is accompanied by his beloved (this hands off, only eying the guys over and over to invite for cocktails -- and a possible three-way).
