I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! Mary Dawson writes with the confidence, wisdom and insight of a seasoned professional while using language that even a beginner can grasp. This book is truly wonderful. I've been following Mary Dawson's writing for 3 years. I found her while doing a random Google search, while I was bored at work one day and I've been a supporter ever since. I was ABSOLUTELY TRILLED to find out that she had put all her years of experience together in one central location.

The beauty of this book is that she breaks down concepts and ideas that many know about however need a wee bit more clarification. She teaches you how to copyright your material, how to be your own publisher, how to network, how write out your song lyrics in a professional manner, how to find resources to put your demo together, how to make the most of your cash advance (if you're a signed artist) and much, much more!!! This is not a fake review. I was not hired to sing praises to her name. I just think that Mary Dawson knows what she's talking about and has a beautiful heart that translates itself into her wonderfully engaging and informative book.

You will not be disappointed. After reading some of her articles, I assure you that you too will be fan because this lady knows what she's talking and yet she writes to you like she's a loving family member who will "tell it like it is". The icing on the cake is that she is so humble and receptive that she actually responds you your e-mails personally!! She's totally accessible to the masses!!! I've been in the music business since 1973 as a musician, songwriter and music producer. I've read a lot of books on the music biz, and this is the first one that I feel truly "answers" the questions. What if? What do I do? How do I go about ? Where do I find ? etc. Deals, demos, lyric sheets, copyrights, labels, song plugging, music publishing and more are all covered. What is even more enjoyable is that they are presented in an easy to read manner. This isn't a corporate book. It's written for anyone to understand. If you are already in the music biz or just an aspiring songwriter you will learn from this. I'd suggest buying two copies, one for yourself and one to give away. Because if you don't, once you loan out your copy you'll never get it back. I highly recommend this book!

I started reading " From Nowhere With Nothing " I found it very hard to put the book down.

I haven't read a book in 3 years due to depression, but I have to say your book was difficult to put down.

An outstanding resource for any aspiring songwriter. Mary Dawson's experience and knowledge of the Music Industry is easily accessed in her conversational style book. Anyone who reads this book will appreciate Mary's passion for songwriting and for helping others achieve their songwriting goals. This book is an honest-to-God, page-turner for anyone interested in taking their songwriting hobby to another level. There are many books that can help one with songwriting, but nothing breaks down the business aspect like Mary's book. I anticipate I'll be using this book as a resource and thanking Mary for many years to come.

I received a copy of your book on Monday from a mutual friend of ours, Joe McDaniel. I spent the last three days head first in this book and finished it just a little bit ago and let me tell you I have never been so encouraged and inspired by a book on songwriting like I was this one. I got the confirmation I needed that that I was on track with some things and I got direction on what my next steps should be. This book was lighthearted, humorous and informative but written in such a way that it all finally "clicked" for me.
