Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 8 Up--With its conversational text full of examples and reassurance, this book is both entertaining and encouraging. Ten chapters cover all of the aspects of speech making from choosing a topic to delivery. Quotations introduce each section, e.g., ``Diamonds are only chunks of coal that stuck to their jobs,'' opens the discussion on ``Practicing Your Delivery.'' The index is detailed. Black-and-white photographs show people, some famous and some not, making formal and informal speeches. This revision of the 1987 edition includes some new text and photographs, such as one of Hillary Clinton. However, the basic information remains the same; libraries that own the first edition will not need this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars How to Give SOME Speeches, July 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Give a Speech (Speak Out, Write on) (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking that it could help me put humor into my speeches. Humor is mentioned a few times in the book. This book is mainly for school projects. You know, if you have to give a speech at school. Not student council speeches, but academic speeches. If you want a book on how to do speech reports, than this book is for you. But if you are in a situation like me, don't buy it.
