Book Description

March 1, 2005
Actor Woody Harrelson, along with his friends from the 2003 Toronto Film Festival hit, Go Further, directed by Ron Mann, encourages people to "walk on the earth with a lighter footprint" in How To Go Further: A Guide to Simple Organic Living.

Covering a wide range of topics–such as organic food, alternative energy, yoga, and political activism—the book has its roots in 2001's "Simple Organic Living (SOL) Tour." The tour saw Woody and his companions—including a yoga teacher, a raw food chef, and a confessed "junk food junkie"—biking down the Pacific coast and talking to people about how to lead a happier, healthier life while using less of the world's resources.

The book also features writing from some of the tour's other participants, as well as from well-known activists such as John Schaeffer, founder and president of Real Goods, a company devoted to creating alternative energy options, and Howard "Twilly" Cannon, former skipper of Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior.

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly worthwhile, March 11, 2005
This review is from: How to Go Further: A Guide to Simple Organic Living (Paperback)
A quick and informative read. Although I already agreed w/ a lot of the content, I feel the book did a good job at presenting the issues in an honest manner. Great points on eating organic... grassroots activism through consumption (or non-consumption)... the government demonization of hemp ( I didn't know the Declaration was written on hemp!), and a few others I can't summon up right now. A good read! Also has a lot of great resources for further inquiry...

2.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening but certainly not a "guide"., January 30, 2006

While enlightening I feel the title of the book can be misleading. The title should have been "Making the Case for Simple Organic Living". Woody gives you countless reasons why simple organic living is a path in life worth taking. The personal anecdotes are very entertaining and eye opening. Unfortunately I was expecting more specific examples of how one begins down the road. Maybe Woody and his team could write a follow up. It would certainly make a great companion book to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, October 10, 2005
This review is from: How to Go Further: A Guide to Simple Organic Living (Paperback)
This book made me queston many of my daily habits and allowed me to see the ways they affect the rest of the world. Go Further reinforced my decision to be a vegan, and made my roommate become a vegetarian! Great ideas, it should be required reading if the US is serious about saving the planet...
