God becoming king on earth as in heaven is the central claim of the gospel writers, argues Wright, and that changes everything. The creeds and most of our western tradition has lead us from the virgin birth and the incarnation straight to the crucifixion, but what about all the stuff in between? It is in Jesus' ministry that the kingdom was launched, and in his death and resurrection that it was finally inaugurated. That's the story of the gospels.

We need this reframing in today's Christian church. Wright's argument proves to be helpful and encouraging, but we must now live it out as "kingdom people." I recommend this book to every Christian who is eager to look at the gospels for all they're worth, not just for some bits and pieces of "doctrine and orthodoxy."

Very interesting book on the Bible and brings out the big picture of what God is doing and how He plans to bring restoration to all creation.

Cogent, well-presented argument that Christians have frequently misunderstood and failed to emphasize appropriately Christ's Kingship as it is revealed in the Gospels. Wright's style here is extremely readable and even personal to some degree. This book has affected my thinking about Jesus and the Gospels from here on out.

Bishop Wright provides a challenging description of what the kingdom is about in scripture. The implications are clear and they certainly are in conflict with current cultural values.

This is a must read for all Christians hungry to understand the kingdom of Heaven. I did a word study on the word kingdom years ago and I went away with the realization that emphasis within the modern church as been going to heaven when we die rather than the true gospel message of the kingdom. This book connects all the dots for me. The writer is a gifted writer and I do believe that this message is a must for God's people to fully understand why Jesus Christ came to this earth and died on the cross. I borrowed this book from the library but I hope to buy it some day because I want to highlight and mark all the revelations that came alive to me as I read it.

I'm finally starting to get it. NT Wright asks you to think about post enlightenment in western society. Not easy stuff.
