Great ska cd...,
This review is from: How It Goes (Audio CD)
Big D have really evolved into something great. I'll admit this cd takes a while to get used to; it is not like Gipsy Hill or Good Luck. Songs like "Cutshow", and "My Girlfriend's On Drugs" really showcase their insane horn section. Go buy it.

Great Ska CD,

Big D and the Kids Table is one of the best ska bands out there right now. They are not the typical 3rd wave "pop ska" that became popular in the mid-nineties (Bosstones, RBF, etc.). They incorporate an appreciation for punk rock in their music which is rare in this genre of music. This CD is pure punk/ska from beginning to end (it is a bit lengthy at 20 tracks, but there are no filler tracks here). The only band that is still around that is similar to these guys is Catch 22. My favorite tracks are: "LAX," "Flashlight," "Cutshow," and "Little Bitch" (which is one of the best cover songs i have ever heard (originally by the legendary Specials which you should familiarize yourself with if you haven't already)). Give this band your support and buy their CDs (they were homeless for a couple years recently due to traveling costs and paying their label). They are seriously one of the best ska bands out there right now.

Big D and the Kids Table never fail,

When I saw Big D and the Kids Table at Warped Tour, I thought they had a terrific stage presence and really had a lot of fun. So I decided to buy the cd and discovered that they were just as good on cd as they were live.
This band is funny, smart, witty and obscene, but they still rock. The best songs on this cd have got to be "My Girlfriend's on Drugs", "President", and "Little Bitch". Enjoy!

and the new album is no diffrent. Some more slow things, but the horns are crazy and its probely the best one yet. I'll rate the song for yah
Sounds of Allston Village-4.5/5-really cool relaxing horns. Only instrumental though. Lax-4.5/5-he drops the f-bomb so many times its rediculous. A little too much like standard pop punk for me, but the horns make it cool. Its a little to long but its still awsome. New Nail Bed-4.5/5-Great ska song. Ive noticed that he sings more than shouts on this album, but thats cool with me. If we want to-4.5/5-The chorus is kinda cool cuz it goes from loud and dramatic to a ska beat really quick. real cool song. Flashlight-5/5- This is one of the best songs big d's has come up with. Alot of fun. Girls against drunk bitches-4.5/5-skacore. The chicks voice is sooo cooool. You lost your crazy-5/5-great ska song, preety short, defines big d's style on this cd. \ Bender-5/5-i love it. When he shouts the part "with his hands in the air, the only one in the crowd" its just so cool. one of the best moments on the cd. Safehaven-4.5/5- a slow one but really cool. I like the verse were the chick is singing the chorus while dave is singing the verse. Your me now-4.75/5-cool skacore song. the chorus really gets the blood moving. voice alone-4.5-really interesting since its not hardcore, but its downbeat. My girlfriends on drugs-5/5-maybe my favorite, its so cool. feels kinda like old big d. perfect song. President-5/5-great one about the stupid government. great ska song. Cutshow-5/5- this is the other one that might be my favorite. One of the greatest ska songs ever. Little bitch-4.5/5-i think this is a specials song. really good. We all have to burn somthing-4.25/5-its slow and jazzy, but pretty good. not great but good. 175-4.5/5-took some getting used to cuz its poppy, but its really good. chicago-5/5-best horn lines are on this one. How it goes-4.75/5-the only reason this doesnt get a 5 is cuz it hasnt got words. ITs so cool. its got so many diffrent styles, and its just awsome. Moment without an end-4.25/5- sounds kinda like goldfinger in there new album, pop punk with horns. NOt bad but not great. so thats it, great ska album.

Sweet CD, pleanty of songs (20 of them) to listen to. Fast, energy, rhythm, vulgarity, horns (oh baby), and so forth and so on. I saw them at warped tour 07/30/05, wow what a show! If you have had enough with the mainstream punk/emo/alternative scence, Dig this album! Its a party and a half!

I saw this band at Warped Tour 8/12/05, I stopped by to see them, because unlike a lot of the bands, they sounded somewhat punk. I was amazed. This is possibly the best punk/ska band I've heard.
Check out the best of Boston's Punk/ska scene. This CD won't dissappoint.

This cd is freakin awesome. I've been a Big D and the Kids Table fan for about 3-4 years. The Gipsy Hill EP and Good luck are awesome as hell!!!! "LAX" has gotta be close to "F&%K The World" by ICP for the most F-words in 1 song I've ever heard... It's crazy but awesome. I recommend "How It Goes" to any ska/punk fan!!!

Like many other great albums, this takes a while to grow on you. I am a huge ska fan, and I thought that Big D's first release (Good Luck) was a great cd, lots of energy and some very catchy songwriting. When "How It Goes" came out, I grabbed it right away and began listening. It's been about 5 years since their last "real" full album came out, so needless to say I was excited.
At first listen I was a little disappointed, but now that I keep listening I must say that I enjoy this cd very much. Some of the standout tracks are "My Girlfriend's on Drugs", "Cutshow", "Little Bitch" (has an awesome horn hook to it), "You're Me Now" & "Bender". I'd reccomend this to any ska fan, it's a great cd.

The best (album) of the best (band),

When all is said and done, How It Goes may someday be considered Big D and the Kids Table's defining work.
From start to finish, the album showcases the musical abilities and songwriting talents of the group. The rhythm section shows its range, laying down the groundwork in slower songs, like "Safe Haven" and the instrumental "The Sounds of Alston Village," while tearing through heavier, more punk-influenced songs, like "Girls Against Drunk Bitches" and "You're Me Now." Complex, ever-changing horn lines in songs like "New Nail Bed," "Voice Alone," and "You Lost, You're Crazy" not only carry the melody throughout the album, but also add different textures and moods behind McWane's vocals. Again, the band's diversity is shown with horn-heavy, jazz-influenced songs, like "Chicago." The lyrics on the album are about what you would expect from the band. Everything from clever-but-funny metaphors (such as "like a flashlight on but lost / my energy's there but wasted" in "Flashlight) to just plain meaningless (but fun) lyrics, like in "Bender" or "My Girlfriend's On Drugs." Otherwise, most of the songs cover staple Big D subjects, like being from New England, past relationships, growing older, and rejecting the 9-to-5 lifestyle. McWane's distinct voice fits perfectly into the band's sound, as always, with the exception of some of the slower, more-sung-than-shouted songs at the end, like "175" and "Moment Without an End," in which his voice almost seems to strain. Although their sound has matured from earlier albums, the Big D attitude is present throughout, from the lyrics to the audio clips between tracks, to the overall feel and sound of the album. New versions of previously recorded songs, "LAX" and "President," appear on this album, as does as a remake of "Little Bitch" by The Specials. It may take a few listens for fans more familiar with the band's previous, more straight-forward work to fully appreciate the album, but it is an absolute must for anyone with even a passing interested in ska or punk.

Terrible,
By Mike Rhakabit "Mike" (Long beach) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How It Goes (Audio CD)
A friend of mine inrtroduced me to this band with the claim they were the greatest of all time, with this being their best. Well, this might be their best, but it sucks none the less. The first song comes right at you, rocking, heavy, an excellent song. Lyrically its moronic, but then again, it fits with the mood of the other songs. The, the album goes down hill. From that first great track (2 if you count the intro) the next however many songs just plain suck. It doesnt break any new ground soundwise, only bores you. Ok, it has horns, its ska. Ska was great in 6th grade. After that, all you fans of ska, you have a duty to realize how utterly boring and stupid ska-punk is. Groups that don't evolve die. Genres that don't evolve die (Punk anyone?) So yes, no matter how fast they play the music, this is ordinary, and boring ska fit for no one outside of die hard ska fans. And they suck anyways.
