If you want to get a reading with a medium and are wondering how to go about it, this is the book for you. The subtitle is Get the Most out of Your Contact with the Other side. Carole Lynne, herself a psychic and medium tries hard to help you do this. She tells it like it is, and her information is presented in a readable, comprehensive manner. Perhaps this is because she is also a voice coach and has done a lot of teaching as well.

A nuts and bolts book with much practical information on the subject, How to Get a Good Reading answers a number of questions you might have and even some you might not have thought of. Because it is written by a Spiritualist who was originally a skeptic this book is especially useful for those seeking to communicate with loved ones who have passed on. She is quite explicit about what a medium can and can't do for you.

She explains the terminology around spiritual communication. She also goes into the reasons to seek a reading--both good ones and bad ones. She also has a chapter on the difference between a medium, an astrologer and a psychic. My only negative comment is that the author has some strong opinions about her subject and is quite outspoken about them. However, she also emphasizes the importance of relying on your own judgement and intuition and states that she sees herself as a coach, not an authority.

One of her best pieces of advice is, "Always evaluate advice given to you in a reading before following it--no matter where it comes from." I feel this is vitally important. There are unscrupulous readers who try to take advantage of innocent clients by scaring them into giving them money. I've had some experience with people who have had this happen to them, and it is important to be wary of anyone who would try to do this.

The author trained with the American federation of Spiritualist Churches, a reliable, middle-of-the-road system. Her book would answer many questions a person might have about the various kinds of mediumship available and how to find a good medium. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking advice from "beyond" this world, most especially if this were the first book they were reading on the subject.

I've known many who have inaccurate views of what a "reading" should be and end up at the wrong type of reader. This book will help both the beginner and even those still searching for the type of reading they really want. Instructions on what you should and shouldn't say before the your reading are are a useful part of this book, and will add to your experience.

In this book you learn how the medium can connect you and a loved one who has passed in an easy to understand way. It is not unusual to wish to contact those who have died and the author gives the reader a sense of "it's okay" to want this and then to follow through. Although as a medium myself, I know and tell this to my clients, one does not need a medium to contact the dead but truth be told, a trained medium has a greater ability to clearly, without emotions in the mix, contact the dead for a more valid message. That message is usually nothing profound but can be very insightful as well as comforting. I agree to be aware of those who take advantage of grieving people and therefore personal recommendations are my suggestion.

The author knows her subject but her perspective is too personal for me.
I thought this book was going to tell me how to prepare to get the best reading I could get but instead too much of the book is about
the rules the author thinks you should follow in order to be respectful to a Medium. She says you should never mistake a Medium for a Reader, a Psyhic or an Astrologer. They are different and clearly, it is one of the author's goals is to make sure we know the difference. She does this by going through each of the typical questions one might ask and tells you not to ask that of the wrong type of person. She does give some good advice for sure but in the end I felt more like I was reading a kind of rule book and that is not what I was looking for.

What I most enjoyed about this little booklet was Carole Lynne's warm and approachable style. Most important, she dispels notions of spirit contact portrayed by the media as extreme, scary, and sensationalist and gave me a better understanding of how a spirit medium can contact those whose lives no longer exist on the physical plane. Be sure to also watch YouTube videos of an interview with Carole Lynne where I found her to be so accessible and credible. Good little primer.

On numerous occasions I've recommended to someone going through the grief of losing a loved one that they might consider consulting a psychic medium, based on my own incredible experiences.
Invariably, despite confiding to a state of desperation,their response to this notion is one of daunting scepticism.
Carole Lynne has created a superb, much needed guide. She addresses every imaginable scenario in a wonderfully sensitive, easy style that should
'de-daunt' anyone.
