The Right Resource at the Right Time At the beginning of the 1980s, available grants from federal and private sources totaled around $80 billion. In 1999, it is estimated that figure will have increased by more than three times, to nearly $250 billion. David Bauer's new edition of The "How To" Grants Manual is an essential guide for grantseekers who want to successfully navigate recent changes in the marketplace. This renowned author shares valuable insight into the grantseeking process while providing a helpful get organized book. Additionally, the fourth edition has been updated to include advice on ways to use the Internet when seeking grants.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Since it was first published in 1984, Bauer's manual has become a standard in its field. In this new edition, he has updated the examples, added some new strategies, and expanded the information about online resources. Bauer offers many suggestions and tips (as well as encouragement) to help grantseekers become proactive. The first section does a good job of helping grantseekers see the grant proposal from the grantor's perspective. It also provides information on how to develop and document a proposal, write and refine it, and find the right venue for it. The second and third sections cover the process of identifying and applying for government and private grants. In addition to clarifying the differences between public and private funding, these sections detail the planning, research, and submission of grants, as well as how to follow up on them. The book includes tables, charts, and worksheets that summarize the information and help grantseekers focus their thinking. If a library can only purchase one book on developing grant proposals, this one should be at or very near the top of the list.AKathy Breeden, Univ. of Tennessee at Chattanooga Lib.

5.0 out of 5 stars The How to Grants Manual: Successful Grantseeking Techniques for Obtaining Public and Private Grants., August 31, 2009

This book is a tool that could be included in any grant writer's toolkit. Since it explains each aspect of grant writing, its easy to understand this very complex and evolving subject. The CD included with the book is further support to the listener and useful. I am quite impressed with the ability of the writer to communicate instructions that would otherwise be very confusing.
