More About the Author
My passion is home building, remodeling and home repairs. I'm also very passionate about my wife, my kids and my friends. I'm a master carpenter, master plumber, master roof cutter and love installing ceramic tile, marble and granite. As crazy as this sounds, I also love to install wallpaper. I find that very therapeutic.
About seventeen years ago a close friend of mine, Fuzzy, passed away very suddenly. He was the president of the top poured concrete foundation company in Cincinnati, OH when I was building. Fuzzy knew more about poured concrete foundations probably than all the other foundation people in Cincinnati combined.
Moments after I got the phone call about Fuzzy's passing, I started crying. Not only was I sad that I'd not see him again, but I was mourning the loss of all of the knowledge in his head. He'd never taken the time to write down one thing. All of us in the building trades would have to re-invent the wheel. We'd have to grope around trying to figure out what he knew.
That day I vowed I would not let that happen to me. I wanted to pass on my building knowledge to my kids and to you so that you wouldn't have to guess. You wouldn't have to experiment.
I wanted you to Do it Right, Not Over.
That's become my motto, and I hope it becomes my legacy.

This book, "How to Grout Ceramic Floor Tile" is easy to read, uses easy-to-follow instruction and is accompanied by perfect photos as well as links to vividly clear and relevant videos. And it's actually FUN to read. The fact that he has provided the book free of cost attests to the man's generosity and true desire to help those of us who need it most.
I recommend this book and Tim's online newsletter to anyone who wishes to do things right. As his newsletter signature declares, "Don't forget - Do it right, not over." Thanks Tim Carter for your knowledge, experience, wisdom and generosity.
I've been a subscriber to Tim's email-newsletter for a little over a year now and with all the remodeling problems, I've been facing, being in the middle of remodeling a 75 year old farmhouse, Tim and his newsletter,(and valuable links always contained therein), it has certainly made the horrific remodeling chore 90% easier to deal with.
Exactly like every "project title", I've dealt with when using "Ask The Builder", and Tim's valuable tips, this new ceramic tile book does what all of Tim's advice columns and other publications do........."Cuts to the chase", making things very easy to understand and follow and doesn't confuse the "do-it-yourselfer" with a bunch of unneeded information and glitz.
Tim's slogan; "Do It Right,Not Over" certainly shows through in this new book.
If you're about to tackle any type of home project, and have not done such a project before or, you've had conflicts and problems in doing any home project, I highly recommend checking out Tim Carter's site.
Seems the disappointment was with the eBook venue, not with the content.
Yes, cheeky to ask in the eBook for a 5 star review, but that could create backlash - many less than 5 star reviews - if readers thought it not deserving. I'm OK with interacting with the world as it actually is.
The 1 star review complained about a $4.00 price for it? - But that review is dated 10 March, when it was available for free. ??? That's why I was there too. And I think it ought to be free too, given the size, availability of the info via other routes, links to Mr. Carters sites. But, though I don't think a normal $4.00 price is Mr. Carters smartest move, I do think the information is easily quite worth it. I think an Apple-type price of $1.99 would be better, or indeed free could easily be in Mr. Carters best interests.
But - on the book itself - I find the content excellent. Yes it's brief, but to the point. I've been browsing a lot for tile info, and some time ago identified Mr. Carters tile info posts as among the best. I've been slowly preparing to get my wife set up for installing a lot of tile in the home we're building - floors, showers, window-sills. I tend to be a perfectionist in my building, my wife is a complete neophyte with tile (first time ever). Mr. Carters presentations are what I had settled on to point my wife at, good solid information with a presentation friendly to those who know nothing. I find them very good myself when I'm looking for details on normal good practice in areas I'm not expert at.
Why only 4 stars from me? Just to stand out from the crowd of 5 star reviews.
Such a nice bonus to be able to grab this piece for free this weekend. Thanks, Tim.
There have been some comments about Stain Solver mentioned in the book. To me, that is just good marketing for a great product. I have used Stain Solver for years and it is quite simply a GREAT PRODUCT.
Keep up the good work Tim. Looking forward to the next how-to ebook.
you can learn to do so with this eBook and associated video links.
I've been laying/grouting assorted tile floors for 34+ years (and no
I don't do it as an income source) and I still read eBooks like this
from respected contractors/writers. Tim's got a large array of cross-
pollinated experience and he often includes tip or short-cuts that I
may not know.....or have forgotten. Hence, the positives outway the
negatives.........or I wouldn't waste my valuable time!!!!!
If you read this eBook and watch ALL the videos at least TWICE.....
before you ever open the grout mix bag/bucket, you can learn to do
a very good job.......and one that you can boast to your friends that
"I DID IT MYSELF"!!!! This is a satisfaction you won't understand....
until.......YOU DO IT YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!
