The book shows you how important it is to really trust in God - how to understand God's purpose in one's life - and that situations we experience in our life can be a lasting benefit for us here on earth. One of the points that I discovered in the book was the ability to be a comforter. A comforter by definition of Charles Stanley is someome who has experienced and through that episode is able to offer true compassion and understanding by virtue of one's own identical experience. This book really gave me an opportunity to realise that all adversity is not necessarily 'bad', but infact a life building and beneficial experience. Therefore, one should rejoice during periods of adversity knowing God is in control and His master plan never fails!

I have read this book three times, each at a point of pain and difficulty. This is a great book and a mighty tool that God has used to change my life. We cannot choose what trials come into our life but our choices will determine what it will do to us. This book will equipt you to choose wisely. I recommend it to everyone, for adversity will come to all, sooner or later.

Everyone seems to know how to tell us the best way to handle troubles these days. Charles Stanley knows how to tell us the Scriptural way, and truly writes from the heart of God.

Frankly, this book is only matched by the Joseph story in learning how God wants us to handle adversity. "With Joseph in the University of Adversity" is one of the best on this.

Both this, and the Joseph book speak to us from the heart, and not from the lofty heights of pedantic scholarship. Dr. Stanley is loved by nearly everyone. His unique in insight into surviving adversity will only add to his followers!

Charles Stanley is used by God to communicate very clearly. This book has helped my wife and me and so many other friends to understand and deal effectively with adversity. It will help believers mature to a new level and is also a great witnessing tool to unbelieving friends and family since adversity is common to us all.

This life is full of changes and turns in the road. Adversity is a given. This book is encouraging and helpful in dealing with difficult times in our lives. It gives hope and assurance of our loving Father's control over all things. Trust in Him to weave your adversity into the fabric of your life to make you into the image of Christ. Adversity need not be a stopping point in life, but rather a time to draw near to God and learn from him how to overcome and prosper. I recommend this book very highly.

This book says it all. It has really helped me during my times of adversity. It really gives you a perspective of just how temporary everything in this world is, and that one day JUSTICE will finally be served to all who have been avenged. Some day the temporary "party" will finally come to an end, and wicked people will ultimately be punished.

I found this book to be very helpful in gaining insight into my personal struggles. Charles Stanley describes several reasons why God allows us to face adversity. Sometimes it is a consequence for our sin, or just the bad outcome of a fallen world, but in every case God uses the adversity to shape us toward His design for us. Adversity may even be a reason to feel hopeful, as it is in adversity that we learn to trust God the most and become more conformed to the image of Christ. Adversity can even be a blessing, in that it curbs our worldly pride and contentment, and keeps us focused on our dependence on God.

This is a nice compact book which is handy to carry along as you go through your day, or give as a gift. The chapters are short and succinct, and can be read in one sitting. This would be a good book to keep with your Bible as a study guide, or to reread various chapters as you face daily challenges. Charles Stanley's writing is very engaging and interesting, and concepts are expressed very clearly. Highly recommended.
