Book Description

How to Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too is for every mother who’s ever wondered if it’s possible to pursue her own passions while investing in her family and managing a home.

It’s not easy, and there will be plenty of challenges and sacrifices along the way, but if you’re willing to work hard, you can have the best of both worlds!

In How to Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too, Mandi Ehman shares her personal story of pursuing her passion while balancing a busy household, caring for four young daughters and homeschooling.

But more than her story, she also shares practical tips to help you maximize your time and energy so you really can have the best of both worlds.

It’s a handbook to give you the tools to juggle your many responsibilities and to do it with intentionality rather than living under the burden of mommy guilt.

There was a lot of hype surrounding this $4.99 book, but I felt the hype was just that- hype.

Personally I found the writing style to be forced. It felt like Mrs. Ehman was trying too hard to convince readers that doing and being everything as a mom, wife,, homeschooling teacher, and entrepreneur without dropping balls was possible.

I'm sure many people found this book helpful, and as the former owner of a small business looking to possibly get back in the game I read this book looking for more tips I might have missed the first time around.

I'm a homeschooling momma of 2 very active kids, a wife, mentor to teen girls, blogger/writer, sometimes teach art lessons from home, Sunday School teacher, and very active in church. I get the whole being busy thing.

However, this book helped me in that it made me remember why I let my business go in the first place- you truly cannot have it all without dropping balls.

It's apparent in reading this book that the author struggles with this too. Her pace seems frantic and she talks a lot about making sacrifices with her family just to achieve her own goals. For me personally it was more important to delay my own desires and goals so that I didn't miss out on my most important roles- wife and mother. No amount of personal success is worth sacrificing my children and husband for because in the end I'll never get back that time with them no matter how "successful" to the world I may become.

She gives tips on how to structure your time, organize, etc- which are good, but not "aha" worthy.

Was it worth the $4.99 I paid for it? Not for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Mandi has a great writing style that's easy to read, and she shares tons of great tips on balancing work and family life--you can have the best of both worlds! Written especially for work-at-home moms, there are also lots of things that apply to work-outside-the-home moms. I know you'll find tips and tricks you can use. Productive procrastination, anyone? (Yes, she actually recommends that for use sometimes!)
