How High The Moon has had many versions and arrangements since it was originally released in the 1940's. It is a vocal standard. In 1960 Mel Torme released this version on the Verve label with Mel's unique approach at the tempo, orchestration arrangement and, of course, the vocal. The result is magic - one of those moments that identifies a version of a song that no one else had heard before.Mel did this many times in his brilliant career and this song is a wonderful illustration on how one can take a familiar song and turn it into something entirely different and making it uniquely your own. The song alone is worth buying the albums / CD's on which it has been released. |
