This is the fourth of the "How to Host a Murder" series murder mystery parties I've done (the other three being Roman Ruins, The Class of '54, and the Maiming of the Shrew) and is one of the more enjoyable ones. It is easy to costume for and a fun time period to be working with, and the plot unfolds such that if you're paying enough attention it's actually possible, but the last round, to figure out who did it.We also made the prarie chicken recipe that was included in the Host's Guide, which was very tasty and liked by all our guests.

Murder Mystery Dinner,

This review is from: How To Host A Murder - The Good, The Bad and The Guilty (Toy)
This was my first go at hosting a murder mystery dinner party (or playing, for that matter), and my, what fun it was! It was relatively easy to costume for the wild west, and also easy to prepare a meal that would likely be eaten in the 1880s.(although I did not use the recipes offered in the box--instead we had ribs, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, rolls, and pie for dessert. A little advice: ribs weren't the best idea...they're so messy we ended up with bbq sauce all over the little booklets, and guests had to get up and wash their hands during and after the meal, interrupting the game for seconds at a time. it wasn't a big deal...but we realized in the end that next time it'd be much simpler to dine on non finger foods.)Because it was our first time playing, we didn't fully get the hang of it until the end of the game. that is, we all tried SO HARD to conceal all the information on the "conceal" side that not all the information got out that probably should have. For instance, I could have proven my character's innocence using the information on the "conceal" side, and not necessarily just by trying to blame others for the murder of the judge. We still had fun, though, and figure that next time we will have it down and have even more fun!! The only other suggestion I have is don't do what I did and invite 3 generations of your family to play...it makes it awkward when all of the characters in the game have slept with other players...for instance, when my sister's character ended up being my dad's character's secret lover, we were all a little sick..haha... i recommend inviting friends or coworkers to play with you instead of cousins, parents, or grandparents. overall, great game, and we can't wait for our next "how to host a murder" experience!!

This is the first of the "How to Host a Murder" series I've done, and it was a ton of fun! The game is easy to follow, and it's really neat how the information unfolds as the rounds progress. It's easy to get into character, and easy to costume for. My guests and I had a blast trying to connect the dots of what happened before Judge Waylon Paine was shot. We were able to pretty closely figure out what had happened after the four rounds. We all enjoyed ourselves, and I would completely recommend this for anyone who wants to give a murder mystery party a try.
