Editorial Reviews

Special Edition includes 4 bonus studio recordings as well as expanded artwork in a Digipak.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd's How I Go not only serves as a strong reminder of the chops that caused Guitar World to place him right behind B.B. King and Eric Clapton on their list of blues guitarists, but it's the strongest indication yet of his gifted songwriting talent. The album pairs Kenny's deeply soulful and impassioned takes on classic material like Bessie Smith's "Blackwater Blues," Albert King's "Oh, Pretty Woman" and The Beatles "Yer Blues" alongside the strongest writing and co-writing of his career thus far.

The hard-rocking, blues-based, guitar-driven album sounds young, it sounds fresh. Yet it has that distinctive energy and vibe drawn from the deep heritage of the genre. Kenny Wayne Shepherd is growing as a songwriter, musician and producer.

Customer Reviews

The rest of the album is really good and Kenny's playing just keeps getting better.

I love the fact that Noah Hunt is back on vocals, and Kenny is sticking to what he does best, and that is play guitar.

For me it has been a long time since I have heard a CD that I enjoy listening to every song on it.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the most amazing guitar players of our time, and his new album "How I Go" rocks! Featuring cover songs by Albert King ("Oh, Pretty Woman"), Bessie Smith ("Blackwater Blues,") and the Beatles ("Yer Blues"), as well as plenty of original songs, this album is full of powerful guitar driven tunes that will immediately grab you by the neck and reel you in. Shepherd is a master of infusing blues oriented riffs with rock and roll and the results are amazing. "Never Lookin' Back" opens up the album and is a straight ahead rocker with a ton of energy that will blow your mind. "Cold" has a driving rhythm that shows his true nature as a virtuoso. He alternates between a straight ahead attack and the perfect blend of melody and a solo in which he SHREDS the guitar. "The Wire" comes as close to being heavy metal as you can be while still maintaining the unique sound of his blues-rock approach. The sheer impact of this song will hit you like a sonic explosion. "Dark Side of Love" is yet another hard driving song but uses several horns to give it an added and unique texture. Things slow down a little with the beautiful and catchy power ballad "Who's Gonna Catch You Now" which features an incredible, melodic guitar solo that will leave you breathless. Every song on this album is awesome; there is not one filler. If you like your blues loud and powerful infused with rock and some funk, you will love this one!

I've been a fan of Kenny since he was a long haired kid back on Ledbetter Heights. I'm also a big time fan of SRV, BB King, Clapton, Johnny Lang, Joe Bonamassa, Warren Haynes, John Mayer, Buddaheads, etc. and so on. Blues - and its many iterations - is my fave music style.

The last few albums from KWS were diverse, with some serious hits and misses. But this one is probably his best to date. Period. I'm not gonna repeat all the other reviewer's praises about how great his guitar work is... just reiterate them.

Heck, I didn't even realize he had a new album until a few hours ago! I previewed it once, downloaded it, and have played it 3 times back to back. If you're a KWS fan... buy this. If you're not, buy it and be introduced to one of the best blues bands going, and one of the best guitar gods on the planet.

$11 for 17 songs... all of which kick various kinds of ass (Never Lookin' Back has to be my fave at this point). It's a steal! It's How I Go...

It has been a very long time since Mr. Noah's vocals have fully fronted a release of new material and THANK GOD for Noah Hunt!!! There are not many blues volcals compare to that of Mr. Noah. My ears are now back in Heaven!!!

Sure Kenny's guitar brilliance is here and as strong as usual but he did the right thing and let the real voice of KWSB shine like it should. As shone in the last full length "The Place You're In" Kenny's vocals just don't cut it. Maybe that is why I don't like the song "Cold" and "Who's Gonna Catch You Now" very much.

Just a quick review after a few listens. Kenny Wayne gets back to what really butters his bread -- guitar shredding on blues-rock songs with Noah Hunt signing. If you liked his first three albums, you'll love this one. I only wish we didn't have to wait so long between these kinds of albums.

Without going into a lot of detail, it's a keeper! If you have any interest in modern blues/rock this is an album to have! Nothing that will likely make anyone's top 40, just a quality album from a couple of gifted artist. Without hesitation, I'd buy it again and again.

It has been quite awhile since we have heard new stuff from KWS, and it was well worth the wait. I like how Kenny has stayed true to his form. (I cannot say that about Johnny Lang.)

Even "The Place You're In", had a few good rockers on there. This album is very good. I think it ranks right up there with any of the previous KWS discs. I love the fact that Noah Hunt is back on vocals, and Kenny is sticking to what he does best, and that is play guitar. How he goes, indeed! Rock on boys! Cannot wait until you come around in concert!
