Good 'ol fashioned, hard driving, blues driven rock!
on August 2, 2011
Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the most amazing guitar players of our time, and his new album "How I Go" rocks! Featuring cover songs by Albert King ("Oh, Pretty Woman"), Bessie Smith ("Blackwater Blues,") and the Beatles ("Yer Blues"), as well as plenty of original songs, this album is full of powerful guitar driven tunes that will immediately grab you by the neck and reel you in. Shepherd is a master of infusing blues oriented riffs with rock and roll and the results are amazing. "Never Lookin' Back" opens up the album and is a straight ahead rocker with a ton of energy that will blow your mind. "Cold" has a driving rhythm that shows his true nature as a virtuoso. He alternates between a straight ahead attack and the perfect blend of melody and a solo in which he SHREDS the guitar. "The Wire" comes as close to being heavy metal as you can be while still maintaining the unique sound of his blues-rock approach. The sheer impact of this song will hit you like a sonic explosion. "Dark Side of Love" is yet another hard driving song but uses several horns to give it an added and unique texture. Things slow down a little with the beautiful and catchy power ballad "Who's Gonna Catch You Now" which features an incredible, melodic guitar solo that will leave you breathless. Every song on this album is awesome; there is not one filler. If you like your blues loud and powerful infused with rock and some funk, you will love this one!
