No matter if you are the outdoors type or not this book is funny. Out of all all his books this one is best since he tells of the characters of his youth, plus a little embellishments. Also makes fun of himself most of the time which he is supremely talented at. WOuld also recomend the audio version which gives a touch of humorous sound to the funny words.

Patrick McManus with his hilarious stories make kids and grownups feel write at home. In his book "How I Got this way" he will make you laugh until you shed tears of joy, and read the stories to all your friends and family. This book is so funny I rate it a perfect 10 and I wish I could rate it higher because this book and all the other books he has written are some of the best books I've read. He is one of my favorite authors. If you start reading this or any of Patrick McManus's books you will not be able to put it down. Happy readings

I have read all but one of Patrick McManus's books and love them all. This one is just as funny as the others. The things he writes about remind me of stories my own father would tell me about his misadventures growing up. If you love hunting, fishing, camping, and/or the outdoors in general, you'll like this book. OK, even if you hate the outdoors, you will still find this book funny.

Pat McManus is always a great read. If you like hunting, fishing, picking "huckleberries", kids adventures or anything outdoors related you will love this book. I can't read it in bed because I keep my wife awake laughing.

Written as only Patrick McManuss can write. Very funny. If you love the outdoors, you will love this author and what he has to say and how he says it.

I first read Pat's work in outdoor magazines 30 plus years ago. The laughs are still the same, GREAT. He has the nack of putting the simplest things in life into really funny stories we can relate too.

They say laughter is the best medicine, and this outdoor humorist is sure to cure what ails ya. With a cast of interesting characters and one catastrophe after another, this autobiography (of sorts) is hard to put down. I recommend a dose of at least three chapters a day, then call me in the morning.

I have all of Patrick's humor books. I have bought other books in this genre, but frankly, no one else is in his class. Perhaps I have a certain brand of weird humor that makes me thus inclined, but as a person raised in the Sportsman's Paradisse of Louisiana and as a book writer myself, I find his books having a unique combination of the outdoors, humor and razor sharp writing skills that I have not found elsewhere.

'How I Got This Way' is a great book. My friend got me hooked on Pat McManus when she had me read 'Deer Magic', and now I can't stop reading. She gave me a couple of books from Amazon for my birthday, and I have to say that they're great. Even though I'm not an outdoor-type (I do enjoy fishing, though), I love the humor. McManus is a great author, and I can't read a single story without cracking a smile or laughing my head off, though I think I like 'How I Got This Way' the most. Enjoy!

McManus is a delight to read. His humor is easy to digest and transfers you away from the trials of today's world into his wonderful world of FUN!
