5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book!
This book is the bible for physicians looking for a job! Each chapter starts with questions to ask potential employers/ partners in regards to a particular topic. The questions range from the obvious to those you'd never think of. The advice offered is sound and easy to follow. As a graduating resident I found that this was information that I could not find in any...

2.0 out of 5 stars Insulting to physicians, February 20, 2006
This review is from: How to Join, Buy, Or Merge A Physician's Practice (Paperback)
To begin with, this book does contain some nuggets of useful information and could serve as a reminder of things you might otherwise forget to evaluate when looking to join or purchase a practice. So it is not all bad.
The major problem with the book, however, is that it is written by a pratice management consultant. This book is extremely self serving with regard to consultants, recommending in almost every chapter that you hire a consultant. Often in the book, rather than actually providing useful information, it just states that you should hire a consultant because the particular area is too complicated for you, as a physician, to possibly understand.
One of the most obvious examples of its insulting tone is in the chapter on bank loans. The author basically states that you should never talk to a banker without a consultant present, as if to imply that physicians could not even understand the lending process.
Nowhere in the book does it even attempt to balance its viewpoint by mentioning to watch out for unscrupulous consultants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you know of any other investment that nets you 300 percent annually?, April 21, 2008
This review is from: How to Join, Buy, Or Merge A Physician's Practice (Paperback)
Use this book to optimize your process of joining, buying, or merging into a practice. Then invest the time it takes you to read this book back into your practice.

If you get through this book in 10 hours, and if you use just two ideas, and if each one idea saves just one percent of your time--that will save you 40 hours per year, generating a net annual profit on time invested of three hundred percent.

Do you know of any other investment that nets you 300 percent annually?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for anyone entering practice for the first time, August 20, 2009

I previously purchased "Finding the Right Job After Residency," but found it to be lacking in detail and depth. I was pleasantly surprised with "How to Join, Buy or Merge a Physician's Practice." This book includes extensive details on how to job search, ask the right questions, evaluate each practice, compare the opportunities, and negotiate a contract. Perfect for the resident or fellow looking for a first job who has a glimpse of how complicated physician employment and parternship are, but needs lots of help understanding the details.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am so thankful that I read this book, December 11, 1998

I am about to finish a fellowship in Orthopaedic surgery, and this book really prepared me to evaluate the different practices at which I was interviewing. It is a quick and easy book to read, and for $23 you cannot miss this book. Don't walk over dollars to pick up pennies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can you judge a book by its cover?, November 25, 2006
This review is from: How to Join, Buy, Or Merge A Physician's Practice (Paperback)
It's hard to take a book seriously when they get their symbolism wrong on the cover. The caduceus--symbol for a physician, also known as the staff of Apollo or the staff of Aesclepius--has one snake, not two. A staff with two snakes symbolizes Hermes, god of tricksters and merchants.

Just what is the author trying to tell us we'll find inside?
