5.0 out of 5 stars Great look at how to succeed - in sports or life.
This is a fantastic book on a number of levels. First and most obvious, it's a great inside look at Lance Armstrong. Brad Kearns' inside knowledge spans Lance's entire career, from when they were both on the triathlon circuit back in Lance's pre-cycling days, all the way through Lance's current "retirement." The book is full of interviews with Lance and his famous...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lance Armstrong and self help tips.
This book was not nearly as good as other "Lance books" I read. (I am a huge Lance Armstrong fan.) I read "Every Second Counts" before this and "How Lance Does It" does not compare! The book is organized into neat chapters, but the actual writing is not what you'd expect. I thought the book was short in terms of pages and if you took out "wanderings" and excess...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great look at how to succeed - in sports or life., December 4, 2006
This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic book on a number of levels. First and most obvious, it's a great inside look at Lance Armstrong. Brad Kearns' inside knowledge spans Lance's entire career, from when they were both on the triathlon circuit back in Lance's pre-cycling days, all the way through Lance's current "retirement." The book is full of interviews with Lance and his famous "inside circle." Any cycling fan will love the behind-the-scenes look into Lance's life and career.

But this is more than just another Lance book. I don't generally like "how-to-get-ahead" type books, but this book also fits that genre as well. Brad looks at the main success factors used by Lance and shows us specifically how we can all use those same factors in our own lives.

Instead of being just another how-to-get-ahead book, however, Brad knows that "success" can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people and invites us to look at what we think of as "success." Maybe success to you means having a great life where you can spend time with your children and not get caught up in the rat race. This book applies to that kind of success as well, which I find very refreshing.

In short, I think anyone from attorneys to cyclists to students to soccer-moms can take something from this book and have it help them improve their lives - and be entertained at the same time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Nuts and Bolts of Reaching Your Potential, January 26, 2007
This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
Brad does a great job of outlining, for real, what it takes to stay on track toward your potential. His articulation of the difference between 'most folks' and athletes is very key. I relayed a message from Brad's book to my 4th and 5th graders in Physical Education class today: If you are really going to move toward being a champion, you must focus on enjoying the experience you are having, regardless of the score of the game. They loved it. The game play went more smoothly after being given permission, or being reminded not, to obsess about the score or winning or losing....

5.0 out of 5 stars George Pierce Review, January 19, 2007

This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
This book delves into the depths of motivation and lays out many particulars and options for developing focus to achieve. Brad has offered many of his own insights as well as "insider" tips that no one else could have come up with without extensive research. This book offers practical day to day tips to "re-wire" your brain for accomplishing goals, to plant seeds and harvest fruits of your plans. You can't put this down once you are into it and I suggest taking away some key insights and implenting for 2007. Great effort Brad and Thanks for the Book!

This book is typical of Brad Kearns. Here's another insightful, easy read by the author of 'Power Month; Change your life!' that goes far beyond the topic of the subjects he writes about. The reader is given gifts of real life lessons to easily plug into their daily lives.
My favorite example in "How Lance does it": "The greatest human freedom is the freedom to choose one's attitude." Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars How Lance Does It - Great Book, November 21, 2006

This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
At first glance, I thought that How Lance Does It would be an interesting book to read about Lance Armstrong's methods for success but while the book does relate Lance's methods, it also does far more than just that. Author, Brad Kearns, also makes many insightful points on how to maximize your potential in sports, work and life while using Lance Armstrong and others to illustrate how to put these thoughts to work for you. While describing ways everyone easily could and should live but only a few do the steps needed to live this way, Kearns then provides easily recognizable examples of the benefits of taking those steps in a compelling manner with many examples from Lance. He obviously knows Lance well in a personal and professional sense.

By emphasizing the strength within and describing the limits we place on ourselves, others try to place upon us and other self destructive behaviors, Kearns shows us easy ways around these behaviors and the benefits to avoiding these unnecessary traps.

This is a book that will obviously instantly appeal to Lance Armstrong fans but will be enjoyed by anyone who reads it whether a Lance fan, cycling fan or even anyone who is not into sports at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the book, November 20, 2006
This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
I loved the book!!!! Kearns has a great way of writing that doesn't let the reader put the book down! It was really eye opening to see that Lance is just a normal man but that he is relentless when it comes to competition. This is a must have for the Christmas wish list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Got Off The Couch, November 6, 2006
This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
How Lance Does It showed me a side of Lance Armstrong I've never seen before - a more human and personal side. The stories of his unique and totally positive attitude in the areas of athletics, business and general interpersonal relationships make just as strong an impact as watching him beat the field up the mountains in the Tour de France. I enjoyed how each chapter about the Success Factors offered simple, practical tips at the end to help me implement Lance's secret formula into my own goals. This is great read for people who have followed Lance and anyone else who wants something different from the typically dry 'self-help' books that are out there on the market. I was an athlete for many years but lately have been sedentary. Now I'm motivated to get out there and do my best, enjoy the process and stay positive!

5.0 out of 5 stars For guys who can only dream to stand on the Podium, February 8, 2007
This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
For normal "everyday guys" who wonder how guys like Lance Armstrong approach training and racing but will never "stand on a podium in Paris" themselves this book is a must....Ive read every book about Lance Armstrong that I know about and this is the first one to give me insight into how Lance got "through it". Its the first book about Lance that I can actually use in my own life as an average guy doing average workouts and racing in the middle of the pack at the average Triathlon or 10k race! On top of that Brad Kearns sense of witty humor and his entertaining style of writing keep you in "the game". A good book for a pro racer who really does have a shot at the podium in Paris.....But better for the average guy like me who can only dream.....

This review is from: How Lance Does It: Put the Success Formula of a Champion into Everything You Do (Hardcover)
This book was not nearly as good as other "Lance books" I read. (I am a huge Lance Armstrong fan.) I read "Every Second Counts" before this and "How Lance Does It" does not compare! The book is organized into neat chapters, but the actual writing is not what you'd expect. I thought the book was short in terms of pages and if you took out "wanderings" and excess material, the book would barely be 100 pages! However, there were a few powerful examples and illustrations the author relates. Lance's view of the world after having survived cancer is motivating to say the least! When you understand more about what HE has been through personally, you can see that we do an awful lot of complaining about trivial things. This book reminds the reader that our motivations and attitudes are what we make them. We can choose how our day is going to go from the moment we get out of bed!

I don't recommend this book for hard core "Lance fans." Needed more input from Armstrong himself.
