A unique managment book on leadership,
This review is from: How to Lead: What You Actually Need to Do to Manage, Lead & Succeed. (Paperback)
For several years our company was looking for sources on management leadership, particulalrly, related to managment of high-tech startups. Prior to this book, the best source we found was a US army manual "Small unit leadership".
In my opinion, the best feature of the book is the fact that Jo Owen is a successful CEO himself. In addition, he interviewed 70 other business leaders for this project. Consequently, the book is full of practical real-life information and not PC psycho-babble. The writing style is very easy going and often funny. I was able to identify critical problems with some of our management practices after finishing the first 3 chapters of the book. We immediately got 10 copies for all the managers and team leaders in our company. One possible improvement could be to add more examples in the text since most of the examples are in the last chapters of the book. However, I did not find this to be a critical problem. In my opinion, this is the most helpful book on leadeship in management. By the way, I am a CEO of a high-tech start-up with 75 employees. |
