Book Description

July 1999
Finally...a book that tells the truth about buying a car.

PK Lyle worked in the retail auto world for thirteen long years as a sales representative, sales manager, and finance manager. The information contained in this book is based on her vast knowledge and experiences gained during her career.

She takes you on a journey deep inside this lucrative retail car industry and exposes the real truths and the "secret" secrets that only those working in the industry would know, let alone understand. She also makes a full confession and explains (in every intricate step of the way) how customers get so grossly and unjustly ripped off-especially women.

After reading this book, you'll know how to get the very best deal possible when buying or leasing a new or used car.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This book is yet another entry in the already crowded "How To Buy a Car" category. Lyle spent considerable time working in the retail auto environment, and she gears her presentation to other women. But her approach is uneven, lacking in new information and including far too many of the author's anecdotes about life in retail. This almost reads like a confessional. The book may be evidence that little has changed in the retail automotive arena since 1984 when Remar Sutton first published Don't Get Taken Every TimeAstill the best title in this category. Car dealers apparently remain a shifty bunch, but what a potential buyer needs is much more than being told to dress appropriately, leave the boyfriend at home, and stay away from leasing. This book is perhaps entertaining as a tell-all but does not offer anything new or different for those needing help in buying a car.AEric C. Shoaf, Brown Univ. Lib., Providence

Review

"An absolute must read for all car buyers, especially women. The book is clear, concise, and informative." -- Brett Machtig, author of Wealth In A Decade

"Her directness and honesty will startle some but if more salespeople were as forthright, so many people, especially women, wouldn't get ripped off. This is exactly the kind of approach we need to hear as consumers in order to fully arm ourselves before entering the car-buying battle ground. Two thumbs up for honesty." -- Courtney Caldwell, Editor-In-Chief, American Woman Motorscene Magazine

I was in the market for a new vehicle, and even being a guy, I was not 100% sure of what I was going up against with the car dealers. Ms. Lyle's book is informative, entertaining and a MUST read for anyone who is considering buying or leasing a vehicle. I purchased the book, read it completely a few times, and went to the dealership and saved almost $3000! Buy this book!

When someone reccomended the book to me , I thought it would probably not be of any help considering I've purchsed several cars and thought I pretty much thought I had the idea of the whole thing....But Pique's book opens new ideas that I had never even thought of as being a rip off ...the book is definitley worth buying , considering you will learn soo many new things in a clear , light hearted manner ! A car buyer must!

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely useful guide to the car buying process, September 2, 1999

This is one of the most useful "How To" books I've read. As a Certified Financial Planner I am called upon by clients all the time for advice on buying or leasing vehicles. I now either recommend PKs book or loan them my copy. For those of you who are frightened of doing the math that buying a car requires, don't be. PK walks you through clear, easy to follow examples of how to figure out what to offer and how to go about it. And, this is a just plain fun book to read.
