Format: Audio CD
Blues/Boogie-Woogie pianist (who switched from the guitar in the 1940s when his arm was injured) had multiple "highs" (as well as lows) in his 91-year career. (Note I said "career", not life; he lived to be 97 years old and died in 2011.) He recorded 15 albums in 15 years and won two Grammys while in his 90s!

This - his final album, recorded in 2010, a year before he died - is a wonderful example of his talent and Rock Beat Records (along with it's associated video label, S'more Entertainment) did a great job in packaging the 15 track audio CD (with Perkins being accompanied by up-and-coming "youngsters" - well compared with Perkins - Gary Clark Jr, Emily Gimble and Carolyn Wonderland) with a 29 minute DVD giving a bit of Perkins history and then showing full video performances in the studio. There are interviews with fellow Austin musician Marcia Ball as well as the owner of Antone's - the club where Perkins played a weekly gig.

Another minor bonus is a "Photo Gallery" which plays for two-minutes with Pinetop's playing as a soundtrack.

I was lucky enough to see PP (his real name is Willie Perkins; the nickname was given to him in the1920s when he covered Pinetop Smith's "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie") play live in 2008. It's a night I'll not soon forget. Anyone interested in the blues (remember, he replaced Otis Spann as Muddy Waters' pianist and stayed 12 years with Waters) will want this set.

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.

A great Pinetop CD with a nice cast of very good young musicians. Amazing what Pinetop could do at 97.
