5.0 out of 5 stars A great primer for the new and the experienced
Being new to options trading, I read several books on the subject and would have to say that this book provides the easiest to read and understand explanation of the basics. It also promotes a conservative style of trading which assures the new trader will not kick off their options experience by some bad large, losing trades. While the book deals with the basics in a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate, but examples could be better
This book was my introduction to options trading. It offers a decent introduction to the subject, and got me to the point where I was comfortable doing a couple of trades. However, the descriptions of all possible outcomes of each trading strategy are rather sparse, as are the reasons behind why you would want to use each strategy. Also, the graphical illustrations...

Being new to options trading, I read several books on the subject and would have to say that this book provides the easiest to read and understand explanation of the basics. It also promotes a conservative style of trading which assures the new trader will not kick off their options experience by some bad large, losing trades. While the book deals with the basics in a easy style, it also tackles more advanced techniques for those who progress quicker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great updated edition., October 1, 1999

I have looked at the second edition of this book and can strongly recommend it. This is still the only book written for a general audience that give us 'little guys' what we need to make some money with options.

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable and easy-to-understand primer, March 21, 2001
By
PAUL PAPAYOANOU (Cambridge, MA USA) - See all my reviews
Especially in these volatile times in the stock market, Hecht's book is extremely valuable reading for investors. Using plain language, Hecht explains how investors can hedge and pursue less risky strategies with stock options. Those who have some familiarity to investing in the stock market will have no trouble understanding Hecht's presentation of what is often difficult material. His book makes it easy for conservative investors, and those who want to pursue less risky approaches, to make stock options a part of their investment strategy. Thanks to Hecht's book, stock options are now an integral part of my approach to the market, and I'm benefitting handsomely.

5.0 out of 5 stars John's Review, April 10, 2007

Another Gem! Do NOT speculate in options witout reading this first! Buy calls and puts with the LOWEST possible 6 month implied volatility, sell calls and puts with the HIGHEST 6 month implied volatility! Also, pick high volume, therefore highly liguid options with the LOWEST bid/ask spreads tro maximize returns! These are some of the most important things I learned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very instructive and useful., February 16, 1999

This review is from: How to Make Money with Stock Options: A Basic Guide for the Conservative Investor, Second Edition (Hardcover)
I am very impressed by how much this guy knows, and by the intelligence behind his system. I suspect that this is an ideal book for investors who know a lot as well as those of us who know almost nothing about this kind of investing.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a big help, April 20, 2000

I'm in a field related to economics, but I always found stock options difficult to understand. This book made it reasonably easy, and the examples were great. Also I found the illustrations very helpful, I guess because I have a visual memory. I've been using the ideas in this book, and even in this volatile market I've done well.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was my introduction to options trading. It offers a decent introduction to the subject, and got me to the point where I was comfortable doing a couple of trades. However, the descriptions of all possible outcomes of each trading strategy are rather sparse, as are the reasons behind why you would want to use each strategy. Also, the graphical illustrations of the strategies are quite primitive. Finally, there are many typos; the book definitely could be better edited.

One should also note that the author is VERY conservative--if you buy small-cap stocks on your own, he may be too conservative for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, an easy to understand book for the novice investor!, November 13, 2000
By
Jonathan S. Port (Santa Monica, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This book will really help novice investors like me to quickly understand the risks and rewards form investing in stock options. It's concise and easy to read. Within 10 hours of reading, I had a good understanding of appropriate option investments and when the risks of certain types of option investments far outweigh the potential rewards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners, November 11, 2000
By

The author writes in an easy conversational style which makes a potentially complicated subject quite understandable. He has a relatively conservative approach which, especially in a volatile market like we're currently in, makes an investor far more comfortable than some of the more aggressive, dangerous uses of options. The step-by-step way he walks the reader through the examples adds to the clarity of the book. I found it very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go with a pro, August 12, 2006
Once again Mervyn Hecht makes understanding stock options easy to understand - and easy to use as a tool for making money. Having known Mervyn Hecht professionally for many years, it was no surprise that his third edition was once again a winner - a book one would want to own if you were interested in making money through stock options. Mervyn writes very clearly and to the point. His credentials and experience are outstanding. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in stock options.
