Book Description

June 11, 1998
Here's what the pros are saying about this classic volume on how baseball scouts find "diamonds in the rough"! "I had no idea I was being scouted when Al Goldis saw me playing amateur ball in New York's Central Park league. If I had this book then, it would have given me further insight into the standards required for breaking into the big leagues." -- Devon White, outfielder, Arizona Diamondbacks "This is straight talk--the book you've wanted to see in print. Read it and re-read it. The sections on why scouts sign certain ballplayers and bypass others are right on the mark." -- Joe McIlvaine, former General Manager, New York Mets and San Diego Padres; now a top scout with the Minnesota Twins "Coaches would be wise to make this book 'must' reading for members of their teams." -- Roland Hemond, former major league Scouting Director and Farm Director, General Manager for the Chicago White Sox, 1971-1985; now a top baseball consultant with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required reading for the serious ballplayer and his parents, June 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Make Pro Scouts Notice You (Paperback)
Written by Reds Senior Scouting Director Goldis and by baseball writer, commentator and coach Wolff (both former pro ballplayers), this book demystifies the process of getting that pro contract. It offers hope to those who were overlooked in the free agent draft, explains the scouting system and how scouts evaluate talent--including the specific skills needed to reach the major leagues. There are chapters on marketing yourself, frequently asked questions, and a full treatment of the workings of tryout camps. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars And how to get along with your college coach, March 25, 2001

This review is from: How to Make Pro Scouts Notice You (Paperback)
Don't let the title mislead you. Every boy who wants to play college ball should read this book. While much of it seems funadmental attitude discussion to us adults, it is positive reenforcement to the young ones. And, it answers some tough questions, like when you should or should not play hurt or sick.
