5.0 out of 5 stars My grandkids' favorite. We're on our second copy!
I have read this book to all three of my grandchild hundreds of times. They never seem to tire of it and it is the first book out of many in our little library that they pick out to read. My oldest granddaugter (age 2) runs and gets this book as soon as she gets in the house. Even the most anxious child will set through this book. It is wonderful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Its cute, but be careful
I bought this book for my two 1/2 yr old. She loved all popup style books. But this book you have to be careful with. Each page had a different style of pull out, pop up. But the paper is very thin and tears easily. Not for a child to look through them selfs. Even as an adult I have to be very gentle with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" book for the very young reader!, March 24, 2002
.
Really cute and fun book for the very young!

Children love this book because of the pictures, colors, good story, and the pop-up action pieces.

A good reader can easily embellish the story to make it more fun! My kids loved this book when they were very young, now (4 and 5 years old) they will read it for fun and to practice their independent reading.

The book has:

......Colorful pictures
......Pop-up action pieces
......Short sentences
......Short, easy words
......Cute Story

5.0 out of 5 stars One Tough Bug..., November 5, 1998

Without a doubt, my 20-month old's favorite. The playful bugs have sparked his interest not only in 'flap' books, but all books in general. Thanks to David Carter for creating a fresh, fun, and creative book to kindle young minds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning to love books, November 20, 2001
By A Customer
When my son was about 1, he fell in love with this book. He would bring it to everyone and make them read it over and over. His father and I have the book memorized! This is a fun book to read - really important when you have to read it again and again and again and again and again...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Educational, November 28, 2003
By A Customer
A co-worker handed down a used copy of this book to my 2-year-old daughter. It immediately became her favorite, and we have read this book every night (at least once per night, sometimes 3-4 times) for the last 3 months. She loves working the flaps, and it has held up very well to her 2-year-old hands. She practices counting the bugs on each page and will predict which bugs are in the box before we open it. She thinks the pages are funny --- especially the "Four fast fleas" which disappear when you open the box and the "Ten saw bugs" that have to be kept locked in their box least they get out. She has enjoyed this book so much we'll be buying other David Carter pop-ups for Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my son's favorites, July 9, 2001

This book has been a favorite of my son since he was 6 months old. He is now 16 months and enjoys looking through the book by himself. The pop-up features really get and keep his attention and have made him much more interested in books in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic creation!, March 10, 1999

My 9 month old son prefers David A. Carter books out of all of the other books. He will leave his toys, crawl over to his book area and specifically pick out the Carter Bug books! Those are the only ones he wants to listen to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, June 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How Many Bugs in a Box? (Mini Edition): A Pop-up Counting Book (Hardcover)

This is a great book for counting but also because it is interactive, has boxes to open. My kids got this book about 20 years ago, and I recently took it out again for a 2 year old boy that visits our home - it's the first thing he says when he come in the door - BUG BOOK ? My only complaint is that the book has shrunk - our first edition is about 8X11, this one is much smaller - loses some of it's appeal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps my active toddler in one place!, September 30, 2004

Jennifer "Jennifer" (Jamaica Plain, MA United States) - See all my reviews
My 16 month old son has only recently begun to sit still for books, but this was the first one that he paid rapt attention to, beginning to end. He brings it over for me to read it to him frequently. He has learned which way to pull the different flaps and tabs (they are different on different pages). Perhaps it's not the sturdiest of books, but for amount of pulling and yanking it has had, it has lasted far better than several other pop-up type books we have. We read it all the time, and he still hasn't tired of it. I will be getting him some others in the "bugs" series (he loves Chanukah Bugs, too), since they hold his attention so well! The bugs are cute, also.

He learned the word "again!" because of this book -- but I've never discovered exactly how many times he would listen to it "again," because I always tire of reading it before he does. The only problem is how to keep him from ripping the little critters out so he can continue enjoying the book for awhile!
