The Great Dayne returns with more dance music.,
By
This review is from: How Many (Audio CD)
First off I am giving this cd 5 stars solely on the love of Taylor Dayne's voice and her collection of classic dance songs. But this cd features 20 ---that's right 20 remixes of her new song "How Many". This is way too long so my advice is to listen to a little bit at a time and not the entire 20 in one setting like I foolishly did. The song recently went to number 6 on the dance charts and the mixes range from NRG to hard house to Big Room mixes to euro trance. Remixes:Disc 1: 1) Original Mix (4:07) 2) Big Bang Edit (4:08) 3) Guido Osorio Club Mix (9:04)-house mix 4) Lifestylus Deep & Heavy Mix(9:39)- Deep/dubby vocal mix 5) Fiburn & Urik Club Mix(8:48)-- Best mix on disc 1 6) Menergy Sound Factory Vox Dub(7:54) 7) Guido Osorio Dub Mix (6:36) 8) Fiburn & Urik Dub Mix (6:15) 9) Lifestylus Dub Mix(7:27) 10) K-Peble Mix(9:34)-- aggressive but yet a hint of disco . Disc 2: 1) Vibelicious Radio Edit(3:48) 2) DJ Manolo & Gene Therapy Mix(9:32) 3) Big Bang Mix(8:15)---Tribal!!! 4) Bet Boyz Vocal Dub(5:50) - piano driven hard house mix 5) DJ's Inc. Mix(9:36)- Thunderpuss Big room style remix with her vocals held longer and has more intense energy on this mix. 6) Nocturnal Minds Mix(8:47)- Euro/trance mix -second best mix 7) Vibelicious Anthem Mix(9:00)- a mixture of tribal and trance-almost like a classic Junior Vasquez mix. 8) Wes Wallace Dub(6:22) -trance 9) Eddie X & Spritual Being Mix(7:46) - too busy and the find a way to trounce Taylor's vocals which is a hard thin to do. 10) The Larry K Classic Club Mix(7:43)--The best mix of this cd single. Just like a Cher remix! This cd is way too long so don't be discouraged to listen to them all because they are from one of dance music's best singers ever.

EXCELLENT,

I was somewhat hesitant when I knew I'd have to listen to the same song 20 times. However, I became very interested when I heard the original version, and my excitement kept growing. This double CD features some excellent remixes. My favorites are the "Big Bang Remix", which is very dark and smooth, and the "Nocturnal Minds Mix", which borders on Trance. Taylor's voice, which I have always loved, is getting better and better with the years. I hope she will release more soon. If you are into remixes with diva vocals, this is a lot of music for your money.

Off the Chain Hot,

This cd single is great. The best mix is the radio edit (the single version of the song). It's a shame "How Many" is not getting the airplay it deserves, however, it is a Top 10 hit peaking at #6 on the Hot Dance/Club Play Chart. Taylor gives a great show-stopping vocal proformance too. The other mixes all create a new sound of the song without altering it too much. Great 2 CD single! Keep up the good work Taylor Dayne!

I never paid any attention to Taylor Dayne until i heard "How Many". After I heard this song, I couldn't quit listening to it! It's a great dance song and it's a shame it didn't get the radio play it deserved (then again, it's rare that radio will play music that isn't Rap/Hip-hop/R&B in the US these days). She's got a wonderful voice and I can't wait for future songs from her. I have to say though, I'm not to fond of the remixes. They all seem to sound pretty repetitive. The best version is the original.

Classic Taylor Dayne,

While I don't think the original version stood much of a chance of getting radio airplay, there was no doubt that it would nevertheless be a disc worth buying. Why? Because Taylor Dayne has yet to release a dismal single. And coming from a singer who was once great and has since only gotten better, how could you lose? Remixes breathe extra life into the song, although my favorite mix is the Bet Boyz Vocal Dub on Disc 2 (for it's funky bass line). It's tight, and the perfect counterpart to Dayne's adlibs and wails. While Anastacia is still establishing her style and awaiting US mainstream acceptance, Taylor Dayne is sorely missing from our bland pop music scene. There's news of a new album. Let us pray for a release that can't come too soon. Meanwhile, there's "How Many," 20 times over.

Wow! 2 CD's of great club music. I've always liked Taylor Dayne's voice and her music. This one is great track. The best mix on this maxi is Tony Moran's original version. My other favourite is Lifestylus Deep & Heavy Mix.How Many? Too many... Somehow there aren't any mixes that would really make it.. most of them are just too long and too boring.

A 2-CD remix single...A Madonna fan's wet dream! But while Madonna's name alone would have tapped the best work from the best mixer/DJs enough to fill out the 140 minutes+ worth of disc time (and only perhaps), this set unfortunately offers barely half of that quality. Considering that "How Many" was produced so superbly by Tony Moran, where is a featured mix from him? With such an anthemic sounding club track it's a sure bet that he could have come up with something a bit more invigorating than these very similar sounding selections. Many ignore the urgency of the lyric, burying Dayne's very assured vocal under beats and synths that are too exhausting just to listen to. A ripe opportunity was missed to turn this memorable chorus into an even more memorable disco throwdown--brass, orchestra, attitude, ball and all. Too bad, since it's just begging to be chanted along with and nothing here inspires that. Instead, every mix (other than Moran's original single mix) is forgettable, yet reminiscent of the one before it. In the right hands this song truly could have stood out as something differnt. However, what you get is a song that wanted to be competitive in the already lacklustre dance market and merely meets the competition half way. PS...It has been confirmed: The cover shot is indeed Taylor, not Kid Rock.
