Gr 4-8--These two slim volumes cover an amazing amount of information. How Maps Are Made discusses the history of maps; describes what they can show and how they do it; and explains their actual production by hand, computer, aerial photography, and satellite. This book also introduces readers to career possibilities in this field. Mapping Our World uses various kinds of maps to describe "The Physical World" (topography, geology, earth history, climate, vegetation), "The Human World" (population, countries, food production, health, development), and "Resources and Environment" (land use, trade, minerals, energy, pollution, habitat). Both books are well written with informative texts. Double-page spreads include a combination of maps and full-color photos and drawings. The glossaries and indexes are helpful additions. Excellent resources.
