From the Author
Meditation has been a lifelong practice for me.
As a boy I would quiet my mind as a way to relax. It wasnt until later that I understood that my increased ability to focus, to look at situations objectively, and to enjoy the present moment stemmed from this daily practice.
Over the years, Ive seen meditation transform livesboth canine and human. Excitable dogs become calmer. Aggressive dogs become more loving. Dogs that are already easygoing become an even more peaceful presence in their caretakers lives.
For humans, science has proven that just a few minutes of meditation aids in relaxation and stress relief. It also helps us become more objective, cultivate intuition, and improve the ability to focus. Those skills are immeasurably important in both setting and achieving personal goals.
Meditation shows us how to savor the present momentthe only moment we have. It helps me stay calm in times of great stress, and I would argue that it has helped my dog, Maui, too.
There is no downside to meditation. The time that we devote to it, we make up for exponentially in the clarity and peace that it brings to the rest of our day. Meditating with a dog is particularly time effective. Its good for us and its good for our dogs. We both reap the benefits of meditation as we bond on a soul level. Meditation is a fascinating adventure. I invite you and your dog to come along and explore it.
