5.0 out of 5 stars Brings biblical perspective for spiritual warfare, April 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Meet the Enemy: Arming Yourself for Spiritual Warfare (MacArthur Study) (Paperback)
The author succeeds in bringing a biblical perspective into the spiritual warfare "debate". I believe that all Christians that are serious about spiritual warfare must read and study this book. Well done!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Biblical View of Spiritual Warfare, October 15, 2005
This review is from: How to Meet the Enemy: Arming Yourself for Spiritual Warfare (MacArthur Study) (Paperback)
What a refreshing reading this is of those who have the books on spiritual warfare that are found in most Christian bookstores. Dr. MacArthur helps the reader brush away all the chaos and misunderstandings about Satan, his kingdom, and demonic forces to help the reader grasp a biblical view about spiritual warfare.

The book explores not only the false teachings about spiritual warfare but also gives a proper teaching about what spiritual warfare truly is. Prayer, evangelism, and even worship have all been misunderstood because of spiritual warfare teachers but Dr. MacArthur stays true to the text as he usually does. He basis most of the book on a study of Ephesians 6:10-18. Dr. MacArthur uses Paul's words to the church at Ephesus (where the city was full of false gods and demonic influence) to teach the modern believer about standing in the faith and knowing that Jesus is already the champion over Satan and his kingdom (John 18:37; Colossians 2:15; Revelation 12:10-12; 17:14).

Overall this is a great book to read about spiritual warfare that stays true to sound doctrine (Titus 2:1).

This review is from: How to Meet the Enemy: Arming Yourself for Spiritual Warfare (MacArthur Study) (Paperback)
This book focuses on how the Bible tells us to face and do battle with evil. As most of MacArthur's books, there is a detailed explanation of several verses of Scripture. In fact, most of the book focuses on Ephesians 6:11-22.

I was very interested in reading the book. However, I couldn't really get into it. As mentioned, most of the book was just explaining Ephesians chapter 6. In fact, I remember reading in another book by MacArthur almost the same stuff.

At the end of the book is a study guide for each chapter that contains thought provoling questions and prayers.

Overall, this was a good book, especially if you are wanting to learn more about Ephesians chapter 6.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly Sane for Christian "Spiritual Warfare" Book, March 3, 2001
By
This review is from: How to Meet the Enemy: Arming Yourself for Spiritual Warfare (MacArthur Study) (Paperback)
As a magic practicing non-Christian, I'm used to flipping through books where Christians are hysterically terrified of Satan and entourage but have the personal power by using the right formulas and chants to rid people and cities of demons. The other book authors claim to communicate with demons with names like LazySlob demon and will teach you how to safely banish demons in your spare time.

MacArthur's book refreshingly says that the spiritual warfare circus is nonsense and that the real spiritual warfare is based on having sound spiritual character. In my beliefs, developing spiritual character is the hardest and most rewarding work anybody can do. And, I encourage anybody on any spiritual path to do the same.
