In Motion: The Remixes Announcement from Amy Grant

It's rare to find a teen phenomenon who successfully makes the transition to adult superstar, and nearly impossible to find an artist who continues to remain relevant and innovative more than three decades later. Yet throughout her career, Amy Grant has always been in a class by herself.

Grant’s early work in the Christian music field helped define the genre, and her crossover ... Read more in Amazon's Amy Grant Store

Editorial Reviews

As a teenager nearly 30 years ago, Amy Grant began embracing fans with a heartfelt singer-songwriter style mixing elements of pop, folk and country. As Contemporary Christian music's first major crossover success, she has earned three multiplatinum albums, six other platinum albums and four more gold albums. She's scored 10 Top 40 pop singles and 17 Top 40 Adult Contemporary tracks as well as a string of Contemporary Christian chart-toppers while winning six Grammy Awards and numerous Dove Awards.

With fans clamoring for new music, Amy worked closely with highly acclaimed producer, Marshall Altman (Brooke Frasier, Natasha Beddingfield, Matt Nathanson) and is set to release her first studio album in over 10 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amy Grant [How Mercy Looks From Here] May 14, 2013
Format:Audio CD
How Mercy Looks From Here finds Amy Grant collaborating with other songwriters and producer Marshall Altman crafting a collection of songs that mine the depths of both heart and soul as only Amy can.

I've been listening to Amy Grant for over 25 years, as I first heard "El-Shaddai," "Thy Word" and "Tennessee Christmas" when I was in high school. Like many avid Christian music collectors, I agree that 1988's Lead Me On was one of the most influential albums in the history of Christian music. Amy truly paved the way for all female artists and today I hear her influence in some of my favorite artists including Sara Groves, Britt Nicole and Francesca Battistelli.

After 10 years since her last full album of new songs comes How Mercy Looks From Here, Amy's newest collection chronicling the lessons of faith, family and love that are on her heart from the past decade. This album includes 11 compelling new songs about her experiences of the past decade being a wife, a mother and Christian.

"If I Could See" is an uplifting song with Amy's passionate vocals setting the tone for the album with the confessional lyrics, "If I could hear what angels hear...Holy Holy in my ear, I'd never doubt that God is near, If I could hear..."

"Better Not To Know" is a wonderful prayer-song about finding regular strength and courage in God's faithful kindness. In 1988, Amy planted 75 fruit trees on the Tennessee farm where she lived with her first husband and children and returned 20 years later to find the trees overflowing with fruit, after there had been no fruit for years. Amy reflected if she "had known 20 years earlier what life would bring, she didn't know if she would have planted the trees. Sometimes it's better not to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably good. Amy's best. May 14, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
As a life-long Amy Grant fan, it would be hard to disappoint me. That said, this album is her best to date. Staying away from the pop rock style that brought her music to the masses, these songs are softer and introspective. Bring a tissue for "Shovel in Hand" and bring a willingness to be moved by the rest.

Amy has help on many of the tracks, most notably on "Deep as it is Wide" with Sheryl Crow and Eric Paslay, truly a beautiful song that Paslay penned. Amy comments in the liner notes that the song was important to her in the last months of her Mother's life.

The entire album features her vocals over the music, and it was a good choice to make. Especially on the first half of the album, there is something so compelling about Amy's vocals that you are drawn in immediately and for good.

Her strength as a songwriter is on display as well. Most of the words read like poetry, as she has a way of putting words together simply and beautifully. "Don't try so Hard", featuring James Taylor and "Better not to Know" with Vince Gill both seem to offer advice from the point of view of someone who has been down hard roads, and wants to lighten the burdens others might face. The message comes from a kind and gentle place. I highly recommend it. Thanks, Amy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad Amy is Back August 10, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
To be honest I haven't listened to very much of Amy's music before now. No particular reason, just haven't. I have enjoyed many of her gospel songs and after listening to the samples on this CD I decided to get it. I am not disappointed and I'm sure after listening to it more I will like it even better. She has a beautiful voice and you can tell she sings from her heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of her best. May 14, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
On her first album in 10 years and, perhaps, her very best work since the seminal BEHIND THE EYES, Amy Grant draws inspiration from the fabric of her life (no, not cotton) as contemplative but ultimately hopeful sentiment flows from the pen of Grant (on 10 of the 11 cuts) and several supporting writers, telling tales drawn from real life experience including - the transition to being a mother of adult children, yet still nurturing when needed - as well as several songs inspired by the passing of Grant's mother. What tethers it all together, besides the universality of human experience, is the singer's oft-stated reliance on the unmerited favor of God to help weather any storm that may present itself. The vibrant, opening cut, "If I Could See What Angels See" sets a purposeful tone with an optimistic reflection of eternal perspective vs earthly wisdom. Elsewhere, "Don't Try So Hard" again encourages the wounded soul to rely on God's grace, benefiting greatly from the warm tone of James Taylor on harmony vocals, while the gentle ballad, "Shovel in Hand" chronicles the emotions a parent feels when seeing their children go through trial and was inspired by the tragic death of her son's friend, killed while driving home from college. "Better Not to Know" is also drawn from Grant's own experience, describing, in metaphor, how sometimes life's richest bounties come even in the midst of tumultuous circumstance. In addition to the earlier contribution from Taylor, the record sees guest spots from Sheryl Crow, Will Hoge, Eric Pasley and the legendary, Carole King, whose distinctive vocals add bounce and clarity to the lovely, modern folk/pop vibe of "Our Time Is Now" which also features husband, Vince Gill as well as Grant's children.
