Loved this show, but now it is just dragging to the point where I just want it to be over.

Great show from season 1, down to the last of the series so far.

I find most of the reviews on here for S9 bewildering. I've watched S1-8 several times but only recently purchased S9 and watched it in one go (actually rewatched the whole series in one go over the past month). Never before have I seen a sitcom that stays true to its characters like HIMYM does. The evolution of the characters is realistic, slow and eminently believable. The things that change in the characters as well as the stubborn things that don't change strike an all too familiar chord and resonate deeply with me. The evolution of the plotline is likewise remarkably coherent and (to me) reads like a polished novel (when seen as a whole). It just makes sense. I'm sensing a lot of dashed expectations on the part of other reviewers in terms of how they believe the show should have ended. What no one seems to comment on is how fully and how cleverly the writers painted a picture of the mother that stayed true to all the little hints we've received over the years. Everything just all came together towards the end in showing us this charming girl and Ted's long journey in meeting her. Along the way, the jokes never grew stale, the wit and sheer cleverness of plot never fading. If only a tiny fraction of shows on TV were this coherent and meticulously planned! As for the ending, it made *perfect sense* in light of everyone's personalities. Once again, I'm baffled at people calling it cheap or contrived or forced. Anything else would have been a 90 degree turn in the characters' personalities - sometimes s*** happens, life ain't perfect but you make the best of it. If only a tiny fraction of shows on TV had been this realistic. Yes, I say realistic because recall that every episode is a *memory*, narrated by Ted.Read more ›

The season dragged on with the wedding of Robin and Barney, but what really destroyed not just the season but the whole show was the writer's slap in the face to the fans.

***** Spoilers*******

The show is called How I Met Your Mother, not How I Met Your Mother, but loved Aunt Robin forever and still want to be with her. Or How Aunt Robin Married My Best Friend and Divorced him, and I snagged Her After Fantasizing About Her for 9 Years and Your Mother Conveniently Died.

The ending was forced. They say they planned it from the start, but the characters evolved over 9 years, and they no longer fit that ending. Robin and Ted were boring as a couple by then. Too much on and off again. Ted got everything he wanted, kids, Robin, thanks to his wife dying off. It was pathetic, and came across as a betrayal of Tracy. She was not just a plot device for the show, but she came across as a plot device in Ted's life, which he simply used to move forward rather than love and cherish. And with all that, the kids are excited and happy that Dad has always been in love with someone other than their mom and he should go for it? What kind of loyalty and feeling do they have for their mother, who appears in a quickie montage of the story.

The show should have ended under the umbrella. Anything after that was garbage, true garbage, foisted on the fandom and insulting them.

I have been watching HIMYM for years with my husband and we have been devoted fans. The show has had its ups and downs, but none more so than this final season. The seemingly endless stretch of episodes devoted Barney and Robin's wedding promised a satisfying end to the drag, but the actual finale was PATHETIC. It was almost as though they woke up and realized they only had 2 episodes left to finish their damn story. To go from dragging one weekend out into several episodes to cutting through several years in 22 minutes made the episode feel rushed and the emotions seem forced. If I could go back in time and un-see this episode I would do it, I would make myself stop at Barney and Robin's wedding.

**SPOILER ALERT**

Why would you drag this beautiful story of what Ted went through to meet his wife only to kill her off, alienate Robin from the rest of the group, and then reunite her with Ted after years of him telling this effed up story to his kids in the hopes of getting their approval of his love for their "Aunt" Robin? & why would you do that to Barney and Robin? What the hell is wrong with you people?? If I wanted to watch a show with an easy out for a crap ending I would watch the freakin Disney channel. If I ever meet the writers of this show, rest assured I will be kicking everyone in the shins.

****SPOILER ALERT****DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING****

I cannot believe how disappointed I am in the final season of HIMYM! I've loved this show for years, I thought that it was great! This has been one of my favorite shows! I've been looking forward to watching this season for months now, but now I wish that I hadn't. I read one review here on Amazon that said something about wishing they hadn't seen the final episodes and if they could go back then they would stop after the episode where Barney and Robin got married; I completely agree! If I could go back in time I would have never watched those last two episodes.
First off, the entire season is the couple of days leading up to Barney and Robin's wedding. I don't know why, but I had assumed that their wedding would be closer to the beginning of the season, that way we could spend the rest of the season watching Ted and his wife's love story bloom. I don't know why the writers didn't do it this way, I think it would have been a much better way to do the final season. I wanted to know more about the wife and that love story between her and Ted. I don't think this was very well crafted. Not to mention, there was way too much information and emotion that was shoved into the last two episodes! This was a very poor choice!!
Secondly, after making the entire season a lead up to Barney and Robin's wedding, the very next episode they get divorced! Are you kidding me?! You couldn't just let them be happy?! That was ridiculous! For the millionth freaking time Robin is going to pick her career over love! Sometimes you need to let certain plot points go, Robin picking career over love had become cliché and very over-done throughout this series.
