4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album From Young Starlet
Cassie Steele is the beautiful young actress who plays "Manny" on Degrassi The Next Generation. "How Much For Happy," is her latest CD. One thing that is instantly clear is Cassie is Cassie-not Manny. While one would expect Manny to sing happy pop or R&B songs, Cassie is a rock star. 4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album From Young Starlet, June 30, 2005
This review is from: How Much for Happy (Audio CD)
Cassie Steele is the beautiful young actress who plays "Manny" on Degrassi The Next Generation. "How Much For Happy," is her latest CD. One thing that is instantly clear is Cassie is Cassie-not Manny. While one would expect Manny to sing happy pop or R&B songs, Cassie is a rock star. Cassie's picture is not on the cover of the album and the interior pictures of her are dark--dark clothes, black nail polish, dark hair. It's almost as if she is trying to be everything her television character isn't to let people know, "Hey, I'm Cassie." She reminds me of Courtney Love, Aimee Manne, Avril, Joan Jett, Ashley Simpson, and early Gwen Stefani. Cassie wrote all of the songs on the album. Be forewarned, this is a rock album. One of the greatest songs on the album is "Famous." "Bluebird," is an okay song. Cassie's voice has quite a range, but this songs strikes me as something that maybe needed a little extra production, sounds a little rough. "Jaded" is a nice song. "Drink Me Dry," is a great song. Her voice sounds very low in this song. Some songs start out questionable but turn out okay like"Crimson Tears," and "Not Yours Only." She sounds quite mature beyond her age on the entire album. Another great song is "A Sinner's Prayer." "Hey Joe," is equally awesome and is a great way to end the album. It's a decent album and she can only mature as a song writer and singer. The production and band was okay but I feel like with the right producers she could be a mega star. I think that the production factor might be why I can't just pick out a surefire hit on this album. Sometimes the vocals and music didn't quite mesh right for me. I think Cassie is great though. The album is full of angst and "How Much For Happy," is a play on words I suppose. I look forward to her next album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Debut Album from Cassie Steele, June 14, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: How Much for Happy (Audio CD)
I have listened to this album and I found it surprisingly good. Normally actresses-turned-singers usually release a pop album that is so mainstream-sounding you could play the whole thing on on TRL(Hilary Duff, Lindsey Lohan). But the debut album from Cassie Steele, who plays Manny Santos on Degrassi: The Next Generation, is different. Instead of going poppy, she goes for rock and it works. Also, some of the lyrics on the songs are quite suggestive but tame enough compared to other rock albums. My two favorite songs are "How Much for Happy" and "A Sinner's Prayer." I hope it does well and she releases more albums.

I love her CD. It shows normal emotions throughout life, and it has a song on there for just about any mood you're in. Her entire CD is awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not What You Expect...., July 21, 2006
This review is from: How Much for Happy (Audio CD)
You heard Cassie Steele and you thought Manny Santos... Untill this cd was released. This cd is completely unexpected. Her vocal range is good, and each song offers a different prosective in to the, what is now, normal teenage girl's, who goes againist the grains, mind. I'll admit, I brought the cd with out previewing it, but was not disappointed. The title track, "Broken (How Much For Happy?)", gives an all too real look at the state of some break ups today. And, my personal favorite, "Love Cost", is a too real account of what it feels to break-up and still be in love with that person, while wishing you weren't. "Famous" and "Not Yours Truly" show her ablity to completely rock out. She is a brillant song writer and lyricist and I highy recommend this cd even if you never heard of her. And I can't wait for her follow up album.

3.0 out of 5 stars better than you think it'd be, September 8, 2005

So let me tell y'all exactly what this CD sounds like. "HMFH" is like the pretty decent demo tape made by that sexy high school chick at your school, circa 1981-1983. You know- the crazy girl who got drunk too often and made it her hobby to flirt with people, but secretly was a little sad on the inside.

The production values are rough, to say the least. And a few of Cassie's songs feature some truly heinous lyrics ("Drink Me Dry, "Love Cost"), but what can you do. She is only 15. I wrote some depressed, self-absorbed junk when I was around that age as well. Thank God I've improved. Let's hope she does the same.

All of that said, this CD is my new guilty pleasure. Shh... don't tell anyone. The songs are hella catchy and I quite like Cassie's voice. Yeah, you can tell she's 15, but she sounds like a sexy 15, and that's cool by me.

2.0 out of 5 stars But she tries so hard..., June 19, 2005

As a fan of DTNG, when I found out that Cassie Steele released an album, I just had to hear it. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, but this album is a disaster. While she has a fantastic voice, the subject matter of her songs are so cliched it's ludicrous. The lyrics are just angst-filled teenage poetry penned by Cassie, and they honestly sound like things my classmates write on their blogs, and I'm in 9th grade. Some of the more rediculous songs are "Drink Me Dry" and "Rock Your Bones". The music itself isn't memorable at all--typical guitar, regular beats, been-there-done-that melodies... After a while it all becomes white noise. However, what annoys me the most about this album is how hard Cassie Steele tries to be "different" and a "rocker". She comes on so strong that she doesn't seem real at all; you almost get the feeling that she's trying to be an un-Ashlee Simpson, but they're really just the same. They try too hard. If Cassie really wanted this album to soar, she should have been Cassie, not just another wannabe. Buy at your own risk.

I was expecting this cd to be ok, but I was wrong........It's phenominal! Most of the songs shock you in a way that makes you ant to hear more. She's done a really great job and I can't wait for more of her work in the near future.
