Finally, A Story About a Family Like Mine,
By A Customer
This review is from: How My Family Came to Be: Daddy, Papa and Me (Hardcover)
I loved how this simple, age-appropriate story told of how a gay male couple adopted their son, communicating the love and hope that they share as a family with humor, honesty, and integrity. The fact that the couple is white and their son is African American added another facet to the story, bringing a measure of visibility to the growing number of biracial, bicultural families in our society. The illustrations are playful and add an element of emotional depth to the straightforward narrative of how this family came to be. For me and my son, this book evoked laughter, curiosity and a sense of dignity - finally, a story about a family like mine, told in a way that all families can enjoy and identify with in one way or another.

A Loving Family Tale,
By A Customer
This review is from: How My Family Came to Be: Daddy, Papa and Me (Hardcover)
With "How My Family Came to Be: Daddy, Papa and Me" Andrew Aldrich has given us a loving, and FUN, story (with great illustrations by Mike Motz) of how two men and a baby came together to make a family, that ultimately, is like every other family. Kids will enjoy this story. It is a good tool for those who want to show their children the rich variety of family life. I know my child loved it, and it opened up discussion as to what makes a family. I echo Betty DeGeneres - "Lucky baby, lucky dads."

A Heart-Warming Story,
By Daddy to Be (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How My Family Came to Be: Daddy, Papa and Me (Hardcover)
A refreshing story of how a beautiful child becomes part of a family with two Dads. More needs to be written about how so many of children find loving homes by being adopted by gay men. Written from the child's point of view, the book is void of bias and preconceived ideas of the type of love and true bonding of family that two men can provide to a child. Easy to read, with great colorful illustrations, the book is appropriate for children and adults, gay or straight... anyone who enjoys feeling warmth in their hearts and teaching love and acceptance of those around them.

Our family loves this book! My 8 year old son came into the room crying tonight after reading the book, saying he was so happy that it made him cry - and he thanked me for adopting him and loving him! It is a sweet, simply book with a beautiful, affirming message!

How My Family Came to Be: Daddy, Papa and Me
The African-American child in this story tells about how his family was formed when he was adopted by two Caucasian fathers. The story is told in simple phrases and pictures, and has a very upbeat tone. The book also mentions the many women who are involved in the child's life. For transracial two-dad families, this is the perfect book for talking about their family with their children in a positive and affirming way. But it's also useful for anyone else who wants to explain such families to their children in a straightforward and manner-of-fact manner.

A Godsend for our family,

This review is from: How My Family Came to Be: Daddy, Papa and Me (Hardcover)
I purchased this book at least a year before our son came to live with us, and I had forgotten about it when it turned up during our preparations for his move-in. My partner and I read it him his first night with us, and it became his instant favorite. He has since requested it every single night before bed, and even though he is only four, he can recite it cover to cover. This book has made him feel so special, and it truly was a godsend in helping him through a difficult transition.

EXCELLENT AND WONDERFUL! WAS WAITING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO BE WRITTEN FOR A WHILE. THE BOOK SHOWS THE LOVE BETWEEN A GAY/INTERRACIAL FAMILY THROUGH ADOPTION. THE PICTURES ARE COLORFUL/HUMOROUS. THE BOOK TEACHES CARING FOR A CHILD TO CHILDREN, LOVE, KINDNESS , HAPPINESS, ALOT OF POSITIVE ! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE OF ALL BACKGROUNDS. IT IS ALSO EASY/SIMPLE READING FOR CHILDREN WITH DECENT SIZE LETTERING. THERE AREN'T MANY BOOKS OUT THERE I CAN THINK OF ABOUT THIS TOPIC, I'M GLAD THE AUTHOR WAS BOLD ENOUGH TO WRITE ABOUT THIS TOPIC/HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE A SEQUEL IN THE FUTURE.
