Best book on the subject of automotive painting.,
By
This review is from: How to Paint Your Car (Paperback)
Although, you should never rely on one source for all of your information. This book is very good in explaining the detail of the basics on painting any automobile. I kept this book near me as I painted my own car.I have yet to see a better book on the basics of painting an automobile. I recommend this book for any of you who are a beginner.

excellent book,

I'm not sure why some have called it disorganized. I found it well laid out with NOT too many photos and plenty of text. I found the content a bit more dated than John Pfanstiehl's Automotive Paint Handbook or Boyd's Coddingtons's How to Paint Your Hot Rod, but still an excellent choice. BTW these three books will give you all the info you need.

HOW TO PAINT YOUR CAR tells you how to paint your car. It tells people exactly what they need to to a professional job! Its not as hard as you think painting your own vehicle. This book TELLS YOU! A great buy. Well worth the money if you are thinking of trying to accomplish the task of painting your own car!-Jeff

I wanted to know how to prepare the metal for paint. I went to that section of this book, and I came away confused. I was unimpressed with the shabby organization of the material, and half of each page is filled with large photos that do not convey enough information to warrant their size; in other words, they are filler material. For example, on p70 is a photo of a can of spray that takes up on third of the page! On p76, there is a one fourth page photo of someone pressing a scotch brite pad against the side of a car. It goes on and on like this. This book is full of comments about what to do, and what not to do, but is very shy on detailed information about HOW to do it, and at what Stage to do it. I can get more step by step information off a can of body filler.

Out of all of the books I bought/read on painting your own car, this book has the best information for a beginner. The information in the book also includes up to date technology on paints and techniques.I highly recommend this book for beginners whom will be repainting their own car.

This is a great book it is the first that I purchased before diving into automobile painting and I still frequently reference it. It is a bit dated by today's standards but, still covers the basics very well. I also own John Pfanstiehl's Automotive Paint Handbook (which is also excelent) and Don Taylor's & Larry Hofer's Paint & Body Handbook and this compares favorably to both of those. Pay attention to the captions there is a lot of good information to be found there. All in all it is a great book and I recommend it. It is a great reference to have around.

Great book!,

This was a wonderful book, that just got updated to make it even better. The only things I didn't really like about the old book is that all of the pictures were in b/w and it was begining to become a bit dated. Now with color photos and updated content, this book is pretty much perfect. Also, ignore the reviews that say it's outdated. They were written before the updated version came out.

By A Customer
This review is from: How to Paint Your Car (Paperback)
this book is by far the best book on painting cars that i have found. it does not get much more complete than this book does, and i would recomend it to anyone either interested in painting their own car, or even having their car painted at a shop so they know what to do or how it should be done

This book really answered the questioned I had about setting up my paint gun and prepping the surface. Well written and easy to understand instructions.
I reccommend this for someone interested in getting into the auto body business.
