Bad advice,
By Sallad "Bus Chick" (Roswell, GA, USA) - See all my reviews

Though this book has some good advice and it written in a fun style, I'm giving it two stars because I'm very disappointed in some of the unethical and illegal advice that it recommends:* Lie to the cop if you've been drinking * Sneak to better seats during a theater intermission * Buy tickets online so you can get the child's price * Buy clothes, wear once, and return them I'd prefer to learn to be a hip chick without scamming, cheating, or lying.

Reminds me of old Sassy magazine,

I hate the whole wave of how-to books for girls. A friend gave me this book and I read it one day when I couldn't find anything else. It was WAY smarter and hipper than I expected. She lists Massive Attack and Serge Gainsbourg as dinner music, teaches you how to play craps, and real info you want like tenant rights and how to get free long distance on your computer. A great read.

Charming and fun,

This book is so fun to read that you forget you're actually learning a lot. Full of information that ranges from the very serious--how to be a solid friend and deal with family issues with aplomb--to the hilarious (see title). A savvy, smart book with good values at its core.

I love the advice this book gives & it gives it in a fun, stylish & humorous way, which makes it hard to put down. There's tips in this book that are really valuable. Especially when it comes to social situations & how to get over heartbreak & be resiliant. Another thing about this book that I loved was it's compact size which makes it conveniant to carry around, especially when you're on vacation & you want a good read on the plane or by the pool. It was definitely worth the money I spent.

A very funny book and well written. I couldn't help but laugh at some of the situations the author described, and I picked up some tips on a few things. what I've found helpful in the book was identifying the looser boyfriend, managing money, breaking up, traveling and more.It gave some great info that I already knew and a lot that I didn't know. I would recommend this book for college students as a must read, and would have to say that Its not just for women. I'm looking into more titles from the author.

Useless overall,

How to Pee standing Up is a nice-looking book, with very short chapters and nicely cluttered pages - side bars, tip boxes, marginalia. The real issue is, perhaps, if you need any of the advice within. The book breaks down into two kinds of information with only a handful of exceptions: "stuff everyone should know, not just women" and "how to spend less money on entertainment." The useful info includes how to negotiate a salary, look for a job, change a tire, budget, and throw a good party. This info is covered sparsely, and is probably better found in other publications. "Spending less money" seems to tend towards taking advantage of free things and stealing and/or lying to various degrees. If the idea of using a college student id when you're no longer in school to get student discounts strikes you as icky, or wearing something expensive and then returning it, or stealing a vacant theater seat after intermission, you're going to hate this book. The bold and eager to bluff might learn a new trick or two for scamming something for little to nothing in various situations, but the book is pretty useless overall. The titular peeing standing up is the only really useful piece of info in the whole book, and that's hardly worth the price.

No longer do I need worry about what perfect present to get my neices (4 of them.) This gem has solved that eternal quest. It's witty, informative, enlightening and just plain fun. Actually, it's such fun that I got a copy for me. Encore Ms. Skinner!

Never leave home without it,

Remember, that girls can do anything a guy can do. If it is the first date, it will now be easier to make your own decisions instead of having someone else do it for you. A guide line for all women, leaving home without it, may be your worst mistake. ;-)

For younger girls only...,

This is a cute book with common sense advice for young girls. However, there is quite a bit of silly advice in here too, and it made me feel very old even though I'm still in my 20's! I think this would be a great gift for a new graduate who's starting to go out into the world on her own.
