Now I can play something other than the radio!, April 28, 2007
This review is from: How to Pick & Strum the Ukulele, Book 1 (Paperback)
If you truly want to learn the Ukulele, this is the book to start with. I am musically inept. I purchased this book along with a decent Ukulele (not a toy one) on a recent to trip to Hawaii just as a souviner and realized in my hotel room that I might actually be able to play it!
The book guides you along very nicely. The book initially looks simple, but it is not. Go slowly, don't rush through the book, and be sure to read carefully. Take all the advice given. I find it helpful to practice previous lessons as a warm-up.
For this book to be useful you will need a decent, playable Ukulele and though optional, I used an electronic tuner. The tuner is essential as it will get you going quickly. Also, if you buy a cheap Ukulele it will be impossible to learn with as it will not stay in tune.
In three weeks time I am picking and strumming AND I am reading music - NOT BAD!
