5.0 out of 5 stars Second-timers get reassurance and solid help
Didn't someone say that remarriage is the triumph of hope over experience? Those of us who discovered genuine and lasting happiness only in our second marriages know that such hope is a vital antidote to just plain giving up. Anyway, this book offers sane and sensible advice for those planning to celebrate their second (or later) nuptuals "with grace and style," as the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
This book was nothing but common sense that had almost nothing to do with a "second time" bride. It talks about who pays, how to select a band, registering for gifts, and things like having a buffet or sit-down dinner. It didn't give pros or cons or advice on anything, really. Basically, it said to do whatever you want, just read the contract before signing...

This book was nothing but common sense that had almost nothing to do with a "second time" bride. It talks about who pays, how to select a band, registering for gifts, and things like having a buffet or sit-down dinner. It didn't give pros or cons or advice on anything, really. Basically, it said to do whatever you want, just read the contract before signing on the dotted line. It also stated that if you want to wear white, do it, and don't let anyone tell you can't. This book was a waste of my time and very disappointing.

Didn't someone say that remarriage is the triumph of hope over experience? Those of us who discovered genuine and lasting happiness only in our second marriages know that such hope is a vital antidote to just plain giving up. Anyway, this book offers sane and sensible advice for those planning to celebrate their second (or later) nuptuals "with grace and style," as the subtitle notes. Dubin covers the usual stuff (choosing time and place, creating guest lists, the ceremony, clothes, music, and so on) but also includes getting over your guilt, figuring out who pays for what this time, and including your kids in the big day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great advice!, October 23, 2003

Hi my name is Andy and I live in Southern California. I am about to get married for the second time and I didn't want to make the mistake I made on my first wedding. I spent so much money that nearly put me in bankruptcy. I bought "Elegant Second Weddings" and it helped me to cut corners where needed! It was so insightful! I would recommend this book to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Saver, October 23, 2003

I thought freaking out about your wedding was a religious rite of passage until I read this book. I was very nervous about planning my second wedding because it was going to be much smaller than the first but I still wanted it to be just as beautiful. I had a lot of questions and concerns such as cutting the list, whether or not to have bridesmaids and what to wear. The author gave some very practical advice that helped me through this. After reading the book I felt like the planning became a more enjoyable experience!

1.0 out of 5 stars The only book I would have returned for a refund., September 3, 2008

What a major disappointment. Nothing special. Don't waste your money! If you cannot accomplish what this book advises on your own with a few checklists because of time or career constraints, save the money on the book and hire a good administrative or personal assistant that you can use for this and other tasks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Till death or irreconcilable differences, do us part., December 26, 2004
This review is from: How to Plan an Elegant Second Wedding: Achieving the Wedding You Want with Grace and Style (Paperback)
Let's face it, marriage ain't what it used to be. These days, it takes a little practice to get it right. So when I decided to bolt on the ol' ball and chain for a second go 'round, I headed to the book store first. And that's where I stumbled upon this little lifesaver. All I've got to say is, thank you Julie Two Last Names.
Earlene and I could never have elegantly navigated the awkward waters of dé ja matrimony, if not for the pinpoint insights so coherently layed out in this obvious Pulitzer candidate. For instance, it delved into all the sensitive questions that both my betrothed and I dreaded. Like, would anybody really believe us when we took our vows again, even though we didn't honor them the first time? And, should we feel guilty about receiving wedding gifts, even though we didn't give back the ones from our first marraiges? (Thank goodness the answer was no.)
How to Plan an Elegant Second Wedding, is also packed with helpful hints, like the little known, but time honored tradition of selling the bride's previous engagement ring to pay for the honeymoon. Not to mention, bouquet tossing techniques that, for the right price, can land in predetermined hands.
What more can I say? If you're gonna re-ring those wedding bells, and you want to achieve it with both grace and style (i.e. so no one will laugh at you) this book is a must. Now, I only hope she writes the next in the series. Me and old lady #2 haven't been getting along of late.
