5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Praxis Book
I've been preparing students for THE PRAXIS tests for many, many years and I have been reviewing Praxis books for over ten years. This is the fourth edition of my favorite Praxis book and it is still my favorite. There are seven full length tests and the multiple choice and constructed response strategies and examples at the beginning of the book really help my students...

2.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to use
I purchased this book specifically because it had a CD, and I thought it would help with a computerized test. You must write down your answers to compare it with the answer explanations. Fortunately the test in the book are the test on the CD. It makes checking somewhat easier. Unfortunately this means you only have 2 review test instead of 4. I will be buying...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Praxis Book, November 2, 2005

This review is from: How to Prepare for the Praxis (Barron's Praxis) (Paperback)
I've been preparing students for THE PRAXIS tests for many, many years and I have been reviewing Praxis books for over ten years. This is the fourth edition of my favorite Praxis book and it is still my favorite. There are seven full length tests and the multiple choice and constructed response strategies and examples at the beginning of the book really help my students on the tests.

The book keeps the excellent PPST mathematics, reading and writing. The review is very good and there are many practice problems and questions with explained answers. There are two practice PPSTs each with fully explained answers.

The PLT section has been expanded to an extra chapter to include more help with writing the constructed response answers and with more practice problems. There is a realistic practice version of the new PLT, also with fully explained answers.

There are three full length Elementary Education tests in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and Content Knowledge and Content Areas Exercises tests with extensive answer explanations and recommended short answer responses. The book is worth the money for these tests alone.

The overview of other subject assessments has been expanded. One example is the Fundamental Subjects test. I worked with a few students who needed this test for certification in their home state and the 40 practice questions in here were very helpful. You should not get the book ONLY for this section, but if you are taking one of the other Praxis tests this section of the book may be all the help you will need.

Barron's also added a practice ParaPro Assessment test with expla9ined answers and with review steps. I have students who take this test to work as paras on their way to becoming teachers. I think having the practice test in this book is a great idea and very helpful to prospective teachers.

My students like the side tabs Barrons added to help find sections of the book.

This book comes with a CD or without a CD. The CD contains the ENTIRE BOOK and has tests in an automated self scoring format. In my opinion that makes the book and CD combo worth the extra $8.00 here on Amazon.

Either way this review book is a great deal and it is the most cost effective way to prepare for the tests. I recommend this book to every student who will take a Praxis test.

Barron's "How to Prepare for the Praxis" was essential in helping me pass the Praxis exam. I worried about the math portion of the exam for months because I knew several people who had been unable to pass that section. Barron's provided more information than necessary in order to be sugccessful in all portions of the praxis. The sample tests were also very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, January 9, 2006
This is a great book that contains full and easy to use test preparation for the main Praxis tests. I used this one book in place of three ETS books that saved a lot of money and I did not like the ETS books.

The CD is also great. You can read the entire book on a computer. I found it very helpful to take the tests automatically on the CD and to have the tests scored for me.

I think this book is a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful!!, November 1, 2007
This review is from: How to Prepare for the Praxis (Barron's Praxis) (Paperback)
This book helped me focus my study and gave lots of practice questions. I still needed to look up problem areas on the internet; however the review explanations were decent. I recommend this as a companion to the ETS books. These exercises are better and the explanations are more to the point.

4.0 out of 5 stars need to take a Praxis? This is the book id get, August 4, 2007
This review is from: How to Prepare for the Praxis (Barron's Praxis) (Paperback)
I just took my praxis exams this morning, and if I didn't use this book, I would have been a little lost. It has everything you could think of is preparing for this test, and when you have completed all tests and toward finishing college and looking for a job, this book's last section shows how to pump up your resume and gives you tips when looking for a job.

If you are in the education major, Id recommend this book, it will take you far in your higher education and beyond.

This review is from: How to Prepare for the Praxis (Barron's Praxis) (Paperback)
I just took (and passed) the Praxis I exam a couple of weeks ago. I used this book as a refresher course; studied it a few days prior to the test. It helped a lot to familiarize me with the type and format of questions asked. I do wish I'd taken the essay part more seriously--you really need to use the sample essay as a cookie-cutter guide. Although my college essays rate very highly, I only got a 6 out of 12 on the Praxis essay. It is not content or style they're looking for, but form, form, form. Don't get fancy, don't try anything subtle or clever; simply dust off that tired old "5 paragraph, topic sentence" essay that was drilled into your brain during high school and you should do fine. I repeat--do not write as though you are writing an analysis paper for a college lit prof; write as though you are writing to please your 10th grade English teacher.

I was able to take the computer-based test, which I would recommend if it is possible in your area. I was able to see my scores (except for the writing part) immediately after I took the test.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book and the CD!, July 29, 2006
By
This was the best Praxis book I found. The CD made a big difference to me. The whole book is on the CD. I just put the CD in my laptop and I read the book everwhere. I still used the paper book so it 's a great combo. I took all the practice tests using the CD. It was more helpful and I was not tempted to turn to the back of the book for answers. The computer scored the tests.
