About the Author

Dr. Michael O'Donnell is on the faculty of Abilene Christian University and is the founder and executive director of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department's Center for Fathering. He has served on the National Council of Family Relations, and his groundbreaking research on adolescence has won him international acclaim. As headmaster of a Christian school he shapes young lives daily. His book, How a Man Prepares His Sons for Life, in the Lifeskills for Men series teaches fathers, grandfathers, educators, and youth leaders how to mentor growing young men.

O'Donnell has recently been named chairman of the board of International Family Life Institute, Inc., which is responsible for pioneering national research on adolescent wellness with the help of four universities: Abilene Christian University, University of Alabama, Texas A&M University, and University of Tennessee's Center for Research Excellence. The results of the study will be presented by Drs. O'Donnell and Nick Stinnett in a new book The Secrets of Strong Teens, (1996.)

Dr. O'Donnell is the author of four other books: Heart of the Warrior: A Battle Plan for Fathers to Reclaim Their Families (ACU Press, 1993), Home From Oz: Finding Contentment in Your Family (Word Publishers, 1994), Heart of the Warrior: A Battle Plan for Christian Men (College Press, 1995), The Secrets of Strong Teens (1995), and co-author of A Question of Honor (scheduled release for 1996) about the 1993 Annapolis Naval Academy cheating scandal that is now being turned into a major motion picture by EO Productions in Hollywood. He is also a contributing scholar to the Encyclopedia of Contemporary Social Issues being published by Cavendish Corp. in association with Salem Press.

Dr. O'Donnell is a graduate of Kansas State University with a Ph.D. (1986) and is a certified family life educator through the National Council on Family Relations (since 1986) and certified leader trainer through the National Center for Fathering (since 1991). He has been actively involved with the Kansas, Pennsylvania, and Texas Councils on Family Relations and has served as the president (1995) and vice-president of programs (1994) for the Texas Council on Family Relations.

He is a much sought after public speaker and has reached an audience of over one million through his numerous radio and TV appearances and an equal number through print and computer feature articles via Associated Press, Cox News Service, and Prodigy. Honors include: Outstanding Young Men of America ('88), induction into Kappa Omicron Nu ('91), Coons-Farrar Lecturer for Harding University ('92), President B. Garrison Lecturer for Henderson State University ('93), and Fine Arts Lecturer on Fathering and the Media for Lander University ('94). By invitation of the United Nations in Vienna, he lectured with Dr. Stinnett and had their teen study featured in International Year of the Family Research Directory.
