5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect handbook for a technophone May 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Since I started thinking about publishing my own e-books, I've searched the web to try and find out how to do it. There is so much information everywhere that I found it a minefield trying to work out what to do and in what order, as there seems to be so much conflicting information. The process sounded so confusing for somebody like me - I am a senior, and not very computerate and am always frightened that I'll press the wrong button.

I downloaded a couple of e-books about DIY publishing, and of the two I found that this one was by far the clearest and easiest to understand. It's written in a friendly, chatty style, and gives technical details in a simple language that a layman can easily understand. It explains all the necessary steps very lucidly. I liked the way the author stressed the importance of careful proof-reading and editing. It is certainly something that I shall pay careful attention to.

The information about how to design covers is invaluable, as I was worried that I'd have to pay somebody to do that for me. Now I know that if I follow the advice in this book, it is not nearly as complicated as I had imagined and I am confident that I'll be able to make my own professional looking cover.

The thing that concerned me most was how to make the book into all the different formats for different kinds of e-reading devices, but once again, it is really quite simple once you read how to do it.

I would have been happy to pay far more than the very small price of this book for the motivation and confidence it has given me to create my first e-book. Based on the guidance I have received, I am now working towards finishing my book and publishing it.

A fantastically brisk, snappy and practical guide to publishing an e-book - all the salient points are covered, and I love the step-by-step hand-holding nature of the instructions for the techie aspects! It's a quick, easy read, and will be undeniably useful for anyone embarking on the great adventure that is e-publishing. It certainly was for me.
